My son was born in 1994, a premie, but was given hep B in the hospital and was given immunizations on time, even though his gestational age was always 6 weeks behind. Maybe he has autism because his body wasn't ready for the vaccines. And there is a HUGE rise in the numbers of children with APD in kids around his age. Just out of curiosity....I just looked at our flu vaccines here in the clinic and they ALL have thimerasol.

When you have child with autism and you know that child was fine one day and one day he's just staring at the walls......you look and grasp for anything that will help you understand why your child is like this. No one will or can understand this untill they are faced with it themselves.

my posts are not intended to be an attack on you... and from this post, i think you must feel as if it was... i wasnt a nurse in 1994... i cant speak for what happened then... i can say that now, we have weight considerations as well for premature infants...

i know that it is incredibly difficult to deal with this... one of my closest friends (i consider her my sister) has a son who is turning 10 next month... he was also premature and is autistic... although it is not in my own home, i do see their struggles and their triumphs...

all that i am trying to say, is that (a)with studies done that show no conclusive connection, and (b)reduction and attempts at removal completely, that we should be looking forward to other options... and not discount the benefits of the vaccines that we have

Good points. Again, my hats off to parents with autistic kids.

I didn't feel I was being attacked at all. I just tend to get a little vocal when autism issues come up. So much more needs to be done for these kids (and adults as well) Like I said no one can know what it's like to have a child with autism. When my son was diagnosed finally at the age of 5 (he was diagnosed with MANY things beforehand) I had is autsim specialist look me right in the eye and ask me if i was married. Well, yes I said. His respond was, "well you will be a single mother at some point." He said the majority of his families divorce due to the craziness it is with an autistic child. Sure enough, he was right! Thankfully my husband now is great with my son. I was told my son would never ride a bike.....guess what....he did at the age of 9. He is sooooo smart it's almost scary. He's on the A-B honor roll and I make sure he stays in a normal class setting. (he is not disruptive the majority of the time) All I want is for my son to fit in society.

Personally I wont do it till a later age, propobly when he or she begins school, I truly do believe that vaccines have something to do with autism, maybe the effects are different on different children, there are thousands of reasons of why that is. But if decreasing the chances of my child being autistic takes me being extra extra careful, then so be it. But when he or she begins school and are around many children (many infecious diseases) then I would vaccine.

It's always heartbreaking when something happens to a child, no matter what the source of harm. I guess parents have to negotiate the probable outcomes and go with that. I had mine vaccinated as per the UK gov program. He is an extremely healthy child, no allergies or other issues. I am very, very lucky and grateful.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It is a difficult decision as long as you are aware of the risks involved. At this point all I can conclude about the possible link between vaccine components and autism is that it may very well lie in combinatorial aspects-

as in multiple vaccines given simultaneously or within a certain amount of time, ON TOP OF individual variabilities in patients that render them more susceptible to side effects.

Viruses, even "dead ones" like most vaccines, vary on target tissues. Most interact with immune cells at some point and that's where immunity is developed. Some viruses, even the dead ones, can be taken up in parts and cause uneven reactions with different cell types. On possibility behind some autism cases can arise from either overactive immune cells recognizing some variant proteins on the surface of neurons that alter their function. The magic of the neuron is in its membrane, so I could understand that point of action. How that fits in to spreading out shots over time, along a more even spread of the immune system... may be a wiser if not self-assuring way, of reducing part of the risk if it is real.

Hopefully our government will begin to understand the importance of providing low-cost, sustainable individualized health care that above all protects the health of the citizens and residents of the nation before protecting the profits of the companies that lobby for more profits.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It is all a bit scary for me as a new mom. But Kavi has already started his shots. We want to take him to India the end of this year or early next year, and I don't want to take him without him getting all the required vaccinations up to that point. It's too risky for him not to get vaccinated. Something I read that convinced me to go ahead with the vaccinations was that since we haven't seen the diseases often in the US that we are being vaccinated against, we don't know how horrible the things are that we are vaccinating them from, which lead to severe illness or death many times.

As of now, I don't think anyone should be forced to have their child vaccinated. I have a friend who chose not to have her baby vaccinated and she is doing fine at age 2 1/2 now. But it's not always realistic not to vaccinate if you are going to be traveling in my opinion.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Joshua just had his first set of shots a couple of weeks ago...I was really torn over the idea. When Job transfered to a different school, they sent us a notice in the mail that he wouldn't be able to come to school if we didn't get him his hep shot within 10 days.

Kavi had his second set of shots last week and he had a fever the whole next day. It can be very worrisome!! Even when you know it's a side effect.

:( Yep. Jinky said Joshua screamed while the nurse pinned his legs against the exam table. I really have observed his behavior closely after that...he's still talkative and engaging. Looks right into my face and responds to my expressions. I thank God for his health. :)

Man all this talk about kids makes me feel like starting up a mavi club at home!

They start out as club members, but after about the 13th season, they begin a mutiny that will last for nearly a decade. ...not trying to discourage...just letting you know what you'll be getting yourself into. :star:

It is incredibly irresponsible not to get your kids vaccinated. That is my opinion anyway.

If mothers can abort their kids they should be allowed not to vaccinate them.

But the difference is that aborting a fetus will not have an affect on the health of other children.

I thought the other kids have the vaccines???
