Hi All,

I'm flying an early afternoon flight out of Heathrow in July with Virgin. Are there any US Immigration officials in Heathrow now, as there are in Dublin?

I want to get the EAD in JFK hence the question.

Nope, not at Heathrow. Dublin and Shannon are the nearest to England.

I booked my flights from Heathrow to JFK to avoid US Immigration in Dublin (they don't give the EAD) while Mercedes takes the 5pm flight from Dublin.

i've only just discovered that the US Immigration in Dublin knock off at 4pm and her flight clear immigration in JFK anyway ... we are gutted as we would love to be on the same flight to start our new life together.

On the plus side, I get 3 hours to clear immigration and get a bite to eat before she arrives with the dog and then one of us can stay with the bags while the other walks the dog and we can leave the airport for our hotel pretty much straight away rather than leaving hours later if here is a hold up in immigration.

But, as I say, gutted ...

Ahhh I see. Pretty important thing to know I suppose. I take it you get one when you go through immigration? Or do you have to wait. Sorry for my ignorance.

Glyn won't need to worry about EAD since you guys DCFed. The visa he has should allow him to work right away.

I was in the UK at the end of April and no US immigration then.

I heard somewhere that there were plans to do a US immigration checkpoint at Heathrow but the plans basically got scrapped after 9/11 and the shoe bomber incident killed the idea completely. I don't know how customs works but I would imagine it would be more conducive to actually have immigration at Heathrow and catch terrorists before they actually board a plane. Then again there is probably a lot of bureaucratic red tape that makes this nearly impossible.
