3. One sister lost her house, another sister (who was 8 months pregnant) got stuck and was "missing" for weeks, my other sister who lived in NOLA with her 3 children got stuck in New Hampshire for 4 months until it was safe to go back and is today still dealing with the after-effects of Katrina, and my god-mother lost part of her house and also had to transplant for months. That's just part of my family. That doesn't include my many friends and assorted other relatives.

4. I absolutely cannot stand our president and his policies and I sit in anxious anticipation for him to be out of office.

That being said: What happened in NOLA was NOT Bush's fault. No one can ever claim that it was his fault unless they just want to point fingers. He did what he could do. The people of NOLA had ample warning and many chose not to heed this warning because they'd been there before. The breakdown of transportation, police and emergency help, and evacuation shelters is the fault of Ray Nagin (the mayor) and Gregoire (the governor) and FEMA who should have not taken A WEEK to help people in need. Hell, Harry Connick Jr was in NOLA helping before the freaking FEMA trucks got there.

The aftermath and it's disaster has more to do with FEMA's incompetence and the apathetic attitude of the New Orleans mayor (who was safely out of the city when people were dying in their beds in a nursing home in Chalmette and celebrities were helping pull bodies out of the floods) as well as the derelict conditions of the levees and the poor communication. I'll be the first to say that Bush has screwed up a lot in his years as our Commander in Chief, but Katrina cannot be put at his feet.

Who's responsible for FEMA?

Thank you, a democrat that thinks. How refreshing.

I see. Only a democrat who fails to see and acknowledge the responsibility the President bears for the admitted complete and utter failure of FEMA is a thinking democrat. Thanks for clearing that up. Very nice.

Hey now, don't take away my thinking skills :)

I know that Bush is ultimately responsible for FEMA, but I also know that he can't be everywhere at once. Even my family and friends agree that Michael Brown is the right one to take responsibility here, not Bush. Hell, even Gregoire was trying to get FEMA in there sooner. No, I stand firm in my belief that two of the major players in that fiasco were Brown (FEMA) and Nagin (as mayor of NOLA).

Bush appointed that obviously completely unqualified moron to head FEMA. It's a bit too important an agency to play those kind of games with, don't you think? I agree that the President cannot handle every minutea of every agency. But he is responsible to ensure that competent people are put in charge. It is there that Bush miserably failed FEMA and thus the people of America . State and local officials failed all the same, btw. No argument on that point from me.
