Filing for AOS and last name change

I read over the I-485, and the guides for filling them out, and either I have missed something completely, but I have questions/concerns about filing for AOS and my future wife changing her name.

The I-485 just asks for "Family Name" from her. Does that mean she uses her current last name, which would then be her maiden name after our marriage?

That makes sense to me, but what happens after we go apply for a name change with the SSA after our marriage? After we get married and she applies for her name goes from her last name to taking mine, how does that affect her AOS / I-551 after she gets it? Will it matter that her name will legally go from one to the other? Will it have her maiden name on her green card after she gets it? Will that affect anything legally regarding her status after we get married?

We still have a couple weeks before we actually get married, so it's not like we need to be filling this out now, but it's something we want to figure out ASAP so when the time comes, we can just move forward.

Fill out the application in the name you want on the greencard... if that is the married name then the maiden and any other previous name goes in the previous names used section.

...I am re-looking at the 485 now, and it does not have a section for "Previous Names Used".

It also asks her to fill out her info "Exactly as it appears on your I94". Her I94, and her visa are going to have her maiden name on it.

That is in part 3, this instruction does not apply to the name used in Part 1

It's actually in Part 2, but still. How does it not throw things off / get us rejected / get us an RFE / screw things up if in Part 1 we say she's "Amy S. Joslin" when in Part 2 we say "Amy S. McDermott"?

If there really was a previous names used section I'd feel okay about it, but there isn't one...

I think it is actually Part 3 as Part 2 is a bunch of questions...

I'm looking at it right now in my browser. Part 3 is the checklist of stupid questions about overthrowing the government or being a polygamist or what have you. Part 2 is "Processing Information".

I suppose if you just put her married name in the thing, and then her former name in Part 2, and they approved you without hassle, then I'll not worry about it.

The form was revised on the 28th of this May, but you're right. I had my sections all messed up. My bad.

I put my married name in Part 1 because it is my name now that I am married.

I put my maiden name in the field where they ask for the name I entered the coutry with (on I-94) because that's what happened.

They certainly require both information to retrieve my file or something since I've always been known through my maiden name...
