I have no idea to be honest, I expected so much more from both them and Italy.. either we're really doing great or they're really doing bad at the moment, I have no idea.. All I know is that I never expected my country to go through to the quarterfinals :S

I think it's a combination of both...btw if Italy goes home (very very probable, although don't count us out yet, we ALWAYS start off really bad, it's a pattern lol)I will cheer for the Netherlands, I think you guys have the best fans in the world! So colourful and cheerful, never making anything stupid, a true example. And I am helplessly in love with Marco Van Basten...as any AC Milan fan he is always in my heart, it is so amazing to see him again after all these years. (L) He was the most wonderful striker....aaaahhh the memories :P

The Dutch masters stopped the Italian Rennaisance and then made French toast!

Yes, I have been busy at work this afternoon.

Considering we went from a world cup to 3 goals in one game, I'd call it decadence...

Oh, I so miss that!! I really enjoyed being in Germany during the World Soccer cup 2 years ago, well, that was crazy!!!!!!!

Last night we had the all the Turkish people on the road, honking until 2am!! Mom said that she saw on the news that the traffic in Berlin collapsed because of all the Turkish fans driving around!

one would think that the Turks should root for the country they LIVE in..... But then again, I'm not surprised, they don't even speak german in certain parts of Berlin...

My husband has been recording all the games and watching them when he gets home from work. I have to keep quiet about the results because he has a self-imposed media blackout (as he calls it) so he can watch the games "live."

My husband is waining because he has to be at work but I kept him up to date by screaming on the phone  My parents gave him croatian jersey for christmas an he still didn't have a chance to wear it.

It seems to me that on ESPN everybody are so supprised by Croatia winning, I don't get it why. Croatians are big soccer fans and I think we are doing good for a country with 4.5 millions of people... :)

There are a lot of idiots on ESPN, although at least they have some knowledgeable announcers for this tournament, unlike some of the World Cup jokers who didn't even know the rules and used lots of U.S. football and hockey terms when describing the action.

I seem to remember Croatia getting a lot of good press prior to the tournament. They did beat England twice in the qualifiers, after all...

And yes, very impressive for such a small country!

OH my god, you are hit the head of the nail right on

I am enjoying the Brits and the Irish announceers. I hated to watch the world cup on ESPN, because of the unskilled announcers were uneducated on the game of soccer.

It was such a breath of fresh air during the world cup to watch a game with the UK announcers.

It is nice to hear so far every game from the UK announcers.

The Irish guy kind of drives me nuts with his over-excited commentary and OTT statements. For example, he hysterically declared that ruud van nistelrooy's offside goal which was allowed to stand against Italy "the worst decision in the history of the tournament." Okay, it was a bad decision but since it didn't affect the final result (since Holland won 3-1) it's hardly the worst ever. Besides, clearly that would be Sol Campbell's disallowed goal against Portugal in 04, which not only decided the game but knocked England out of the tournament causing grown men to cry.

Is it immature to giggle like children ever time the annoucer says van der vart's name?

I agree, I find Tommy Smyth (the Irish guy) pretty annoying. He's in a constant hyperactive state and often talks over everyone else, whether in the studio or commentating the game. Also, he constantly presents his opinion as emphatic fact even when a replay shows he may have jumped to the wrong conclusion (re: hand ball, bad tackle, etc.). His tone often suggests that he's the only one who knows what's going on--which clearly isn't the case much of the time!

That said, I'd take his commentary over Dave O'Brien's (whom I like as a baseball guy)!
