Well we had our AOS interview today at Garden City, Long Island (NY). We waited for about 45 minutes for our name to be called for the interview. The person who interviewed us was VERY friendly and courteous. He didn’t ask too many questions….well I’ll just get to it: WE ARE APPROVED.

Below is a little summary of our interview process.

My Questions:

1. What is your wife’s name

2. What is her Date of Birthday

3. What you like about her

4. What don’t you like about her?

Questions for my Wife:

1. What is your husband’s name

2. What is your address

3. What is your husband DOB….she actually answered this one wrong but I don’t think the guy caught it…lol

4. What do you like about your husband?

5. What don’t you like/ what annoys you?

6. Why do you want to stay in America?

He then asked to see some pictures…we had 4 albums. We browsed through them very quickly. He then asked for all the required paper work.

I submitted:

1. The I-864 packet with signed form, job letter, copy of 2007 tax Return with W2, Bank statement, 3 months’ pay stub and 401K statement.

2. Evidence packet: bank statement, copy of car insurance statement, Health Statement from my employer, some ‘beneficiary’ letters.

He also took 1 picture with both of us for the File.

We were then told to wait for 45 minutes to receive the passport. 45 minutes later we received the passport. It had the 551 stamp inside valid for 1 year and a letter about what the next step is (the Removal of Conditions).

Finally we were told to expect the Green Card within 5-6 weeks!!!!

Quick Question: We did not get back the I-94 Card…is that normal? We kept the EAD card.

NO MORE USCIS till March 2010. YEAH!

Thanks to everyone who helped us out. I wish everyone good luck.

Congratulations - and yes, it is normal for them to take the I-94 as she no longer needs to turn it in if she exits the country - and yes, it is normal to take the EAD as she no longer needs it for employment. She can use the I-551 stamp as her proof of her permanent residence status - and all of the rights associated with it - until the actual green card arrives.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
