He beleves that both Intelligent Design and evolution should be taught.

Then he is a kook.

I don't think so. I mean, personally I don't care because I'm done with school and my kids go to private school (and learn about evolution AND ID) (and both of my kids believe in evolution, btw) but at least he's a kook who also holds a degree in biology. He could just be a kook :)

Regardless he'd never be able to anything on a federal level in regards to ID in schools and it's such a minor aspect compared to his other qualities, IMHO.

Of course I'm also a tree-hugging liberal so ####### do I know?!

Insiders in John McCain's Republican presidential campaign expect him to make his choice of a vice presidential running mate during the first half of August, about two or three weeks before the start of the GOP nominating convention in Minnesota.

...

GOP insiders think McCain has a solid roster of possible vice presidential candidates to choose from, including former Ohio representative and former White House budget director Rob Portman, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

All of them would be conventional choices. But McCain friends say he is perfectly capable of pulling a surprise of his own and picking a newcomer such as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal or a woman such as Carly Fiorina, former president of Hewlett-Packard. But McCain hasn't tipped his hand on which way he is leaning.

Jun, I would agree with Troll on this. Intelligent Design is not anything academic that can be taught.

I disagree in theory... it can be taught just like any other discipline as long as its not called science, which its not.

I disagree with the agree. Wait. What?

Well, my point is that just because he's a religious conservative doesn't mean he's a kook.

The more of a Biblical kook he turns out to be, the less of a quandary I'll have.

True story. Plus you know he's first generation American. That should count for something, eh?

In his election campaign, Mr. Jindal said that “there’s no scientific theory that explains how you create organic life out of inorganic matter,” and that students should “decide for themselves.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/02/us/02jindal.html

That's different from saying he doesn't accept the Theory of Evolution.

It suggests, however, that he favors the teaching of religous script (creationism) in science class - as if evolution and creationism are scientific concepts. Obviously, the latter isn't a scientific concept and the lines shouldn't be blurred in the minds of the next generation. You wanna learn about creationism, more power to you. Try Sunday school.

Agreed. The position he's taking with this "decide for themselves thing" is essentially a middle road so as not to alienate religious conservatives or provide the appearance that he's giving an authoritative opinion one way or the other. Fence sitting in other words - though on this particular issue, not surprising given the State he's from. There's nothing really profound here - just another career politician saying what he needs to say to get the votes to hold onto his little piece of power.

Intelligent Design and Creationism works as a general 'non-specific' theory, but as a movement its one of the most heavily politicised things going. Intelligent Design is basically the politically correct label for Creationism - designed to be more palatable and to give the idea an air of legitimacy. All it amounts to in specific terms is the same old ####### - not anything approaching actual verifiable evidence, but picking holes in the work of evolutionary scientists. They even get into physics if you can believe it.

Hi Daniel!

Marsha Blackburn: The TN Congresswoman is attractive, has a superb personality, and has a 97% lifetime ACU rating. She would be a fantastic choice if McCain wanted to reach out to conservative voters and women voters at the same time. Of course, Blackburn has only been in office since 2002, but that still makes her more experienced than Barack Obama. How seriously McCain would look at Blackburn is hard to say, but at first glance, she would appear to be an excellent choice for Veep.
