Just wondering if my husband/stepkids can pick up their Visa in Montreal- or if they have to go back and wait for it to come ? I am not sure how long it takes to actually get the Visa once approved.... if they could pick it up in a day or two in Montreal after the interview- I could actually pick them up and bring them home with me instead of having them fly back to Claresholm.

  23. Interview scheduled for 1/16/09 in MTL- hoping to schedule the medical early in the same week
  24. 1/16/09- CR-1/APPROVED !!
  25. 1/23/09- Visas arrived !!
  26. Coming home forever- January 30 2009 !

Hi,

It pretty much depends on the person who conducts your interview. The person who did my Husband's said he could pick it up the next day if he wanted to (he didn't and they mailed it out, it arrived 3 days after his interview).

Sometimes it can take a couple of weeks for the visa to arrive - as mentioned, I think the interviewer is actually responsible for getting the visa out. Can't hurt to ask on the day.

Unfortunately, pick up is no longer an option and you will have to bring the prepaid fedex envelope or bring a credit card to purchase one there.

It seems to take between a week to two weeks for the visa to reach you after your interview.

18/01/2007: Packet 3 delivered to Montreal Consulate

02/02/2007: Medical Exam in London, ON- Wonderful Doctor/Office

30/05/2007: Package 4 received from Montreal

05/07/2007: Interview date - Canceled by request, [promised a Dec date b/c was 6+mo in advance, note on file

Screwed up my interview date, given NOVEMBER, fixed, promised Dec or Jan

06/02/2008: Interview date, medical now expired! APPROVED!

23/01/2008: New Medical done, WHERE THE @#$%! IS IT, DID THE MAILMAN LOSE IT?! (It arrived 30 min after I left for MTL, 1 week overdue. KISS MY LEFT FOOT, AFTER IT'S BEEN WEDGED UP YOUR HINEY AND LOST IT'S STILETTO, CANADA POST!)

14/02/2008: VISA IN HAND!!

18/05/2008: POE - Harassed by ignorant and incompetent Customs Official who grilled me until I answered that the reason why I broke up w/ my Ex was not to date my USC but b/c he was "impotent from a porn addiction". He also insulted my husband's motives for talking to me, dismissed our 2 years together as "not enough to get married", and otherwise trotted out the Spanish Inquisition.

22/05/2008: Ceremony of cohabitation (Legally allowed to get bizz-ay!)

AOS/AP/EAD

02/07/2008: Filed for AOS/AP/EAD

14/07/2008: Received NOA1

09/09/2008: Transferred to CSC

29/09/2008: EAD arrives in mail w/out notice, AP following week

18/11/2008: Email notice letter has gone out, card ETA: 60 days

25/11/2008: GC arrives in mail! TWO YEARS OF RED-TAPE FREEDOM! WOOT!

There have been a few of recent that were given the option of picking up NEXT day, but thats in the minority and can't be relied on! Unfortunately for the most part, the consulates don't do things to make it easier for you,lol But one can always ask, doesnt hurt, all they can do is say no!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I agree. Never hurts to ask. My husband asked and I picked mine up later that day. But that was back in the days when you picked it up the following day. Like Trailmix says, they can, and will, do it..... if you get the right officer, that is. When I went back I heard a clerk vociferously complaining about having to do mine right away. The officer walked over to her, quietly said something to her, and she shut right up. Then he grinned at me and chatted a little. I got my visa a few minutes later.

I tell ya it pays to be nice to the interviewer. We chatted and chatted, talked about her last posting (think it was somewhere in Africa??) And at the time my Wife worked at the State dept here in DC and her aunts were in the foreign service, so we had a good chat! She never even noticed my previous 5 murder charges!! Sweet
