Senior advisers to Senator Hillary Clinton have prepared the ground for her to abandon her presidential ambitions within days rather than disputing the Democratic nomination all the way to the party convention in August.

...

Obama is expected to be able to declare himself the party's candidate against Senator John McCain as early as tomorrow, when South Dakota and Montana become the final states to hold their primaries.

Big Dog,

Conceding the Democratic nomination doesn't mean she's conceding the Presidency. She will still likely run third party and take her primary base and McCain's base with her. In addition to propelling her to the White House, it will also mean the death of the GOP.

I don't see that. Her independent run would effectively do two things: Ensure McCain's victory and end her political career.

It might actually be quite cool if she does that - that might bring about some real change.

It would definitely completely realign everything.

This was back in March 7, 2008, but very relevant...

Terry McAuliffe interviewed by Bill Maher...

On 7 March 2008 during a live episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, McAuliffe's interview with Maher became confrontational and eventually ended unexpectedly. Minutes later, when Maher asked his guests what they think happened, one panelist said "Maybe the bullshit-o-meter just went off the chart." [18]

Bill Maher: Let me ask you this: What was Bill Clinton's foreign policy experience in 1992 when he ran?

McAuliffe: Well, let me say this: It's a much different world than when Bill Clinton ran in 1992. We are in a post-9/11 world--

Maher: Bababababab. Before you get off on the bullshit part of the answer...

(Audience cheering)

(...)

McAuliffe: Uh, someone is going to get the necessary delegates. Right now, there are about 315 what we call "superdelegates" still sitting out. June 1st is Puerto Rico, which, Bill and I, we should go down and cover that. A couple of pina coladas down at the Caribe Hilton to finish up the last primary...

Maher: But let's not bring Bill Clinton because we don't need trouble.

McAuliffe: Uh, he doesn't drink.

(McAuliffe's camera is shut off and the feed reverts to color bars.)

Maher: Wait a sec-- [19]

Hey guys, I am all for a destruction and rebuilding of the GOP. As it stands now we are only Democrat light. The GOP will never get anywhere just adopting the Dem's agenda, but only going half way with it.

The GOP needs to stand in opposition and let the chips fall where they may. Live or die by our conservative principles! There is no other way. Otherwise when the Democrats fail with their agenda there will not be a clear distinction in the minds of the voters between the two parties.

The election of John McCain would only serve to delay this process that must happen.
