looking for a nursing job

My sister-in-law in Peru got a degree in obstetrics and has worked with an obstetrician as a nurse for quite some time. My aunt, who is a transcriptionist for several doctors, was telling me today that there is a massive demand for nurses who do what she does, here in the US. My wife talked to her today and mentioned this...she would be very interested in working here in the US, filling a role that needs to be filled. But I don't know the first thing about where to get information to get her started in finding a job here, where the employer would sponsor her. Anyone got any ideas? Would a nurse staffing company or a hospital be good places to start?

1. decide which state she wants to pursue her nursing career. Check out the individual state board of nursing requirements for foreign nurses (google state board of nursing)

2. www.cgfns.org - they are accepted by most states and they do the evaluation of her credentials and transcripts from Peru Nursing school.

3. If she's found eligible by the BON (board of Nursing) (if her education compares to the education of an RN in the US) she will get authorization to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

4. Pass NCLEX-RN exam and register with state board of nursing

if she doesn't have a visa, she can apply for a greencard. Once she gets her RN License, she needs to find a hospital who will sponsor her greencard. She will need to get the visa screen certificate from cgfns for her greencard application.

Good luck!

I would not recommend using an agency to come over here. They ususally pay for the evaluation costs and plane tickets, testing fees etc, but in the end they put u on a contract and take more money out of her paycheck for years.

http://allnurses.com/ An excellent free forum regarding nursing

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We assist management and nursing unions in Contract negotiations and what you've heard is true, there is a tremendous shortage of nurses in this country(especially in "Baby catchers" as they're referred to) and she should have no trouble finding a good paying job... Check as well with the Unionized state nursing associations for whichever state she wants to reside in.....Buena suerte...

All done for the next 10 years...

Now more then ever..."and Miles to go before I sleep and miles to go before I sleep"
