hi,

What new I-864?

You can find the most current forms at uscis.gov. The page for your form will also have up to date fee information and instructions.

Provide as many tax transcripts as are requested from you; it seems everyone is down to just the most recent one, but you don't say where you're filing it to or for what benefit.

There was a post in another thread that when they received their I-864 along with the instructions to only submit one years tax returns in accordance with the new policy, that there were changes on the form itself. I havent seen it confirmed yet by any other post. Perhaps others that have received the new instructions can let us know if this is indeed true as per the I-864.

The form posted at uscis.gov is currently rev. 11/05/01; new forms should be posted pretty quickly to that site.

There *are* new instructions on the I-864 page at uscis.gov:

Special Instructions:

All sponsors must submit the following documentation with their I-864:

Proof of current employment or self employment

A photocopy or an Internal Revenue Service-issued transcript of a photocopy or an Internal Revenue Service-issued transcript of your complete Federal income tax return for your most recent tax year, or an explanation if it is not submitted. Your W-2s and/or 1099 forms may also be required, see the I-864 instructions for details.

You may also, at your option, submit a photocopy or an Internal Revenue Service-issued transcript of your complete Federal income tax returns for your second and third most recent tax years if you believe these additional tax returns may help you establish the ability to maintain your household income at the governing threshold set forth in Form I-864P, Poverty Guidelines

My thoughts:

This clearly states that transcripts are OK.

W-2s/1099s MAY be required in addition (I never included them with my I-864)

You can OPT to include up to 3 years returns if it makes you look better.

The take home is: complete the form they send you, or a newer version. Follow the instructions you receive with the form.

I can't imagine that anything major has actually changed, other than the 'one year instead of three' deal.
