Thinking about getting a motorcycle

My hubby bought a new Harley to ride to work...it has saved us a lot of gas money...but, yeh, I worry about him all the time as I lost my brother in a bike accident, but I know how much my brother loved riding and I would never stop or discourage it, to me it would be a disservice to his memory, he was 39 when he died and never once was interested in driving a car...his accident was a moment of, I guess, distraction.

He was heavily involved in a charity in Edinburgh that instructed young people how to ride safely, the thing that stays with me most is seeing his widow at the funeral tell those young people that if it could happen to him it can happen to any one of them and to always remember him for that.

sorry to hear about your brother.

hubby is riding his Harley to work every day- in the BRONX! it scares me so much. Motorcycling is his life and he is very good at it, but I am too worried about all the crazies in their cars who don't look out for bikers.

But he does it for gas saving reasons too (we pay $4.39/gal) and he loves it, so what can I do.

I'd recommend a Honda Rebel for beginners, I am just learning how to ride myself and they are the smallest, less scarier ones out there.

@welshcookie: I am sorry about your brother!

it's my worst nightmare that something like that could happen to my husband.

Welshie, so sorry about your brother. (F)

David has been in 44 (or is it 45?) bike crashes throughout his (long) life. He still wants to race again but at least the over 40 crowd don't seem *quite* as crazy. Except for David. :P

Sure, I worry. But no more than when I see him do anything! He loves riding and racing and no way would I ever try to stop him doing that. Last I counted he had 22 bikes in what used to be the 2-car garage (but selling spare parts, making tanks/etc and building bikes are his biz now). Not that he'll ever be able to let himself sell any. :bonk:
