As a cheaper alternative to driving a car to work. Anyone here ever own or ride a Suzuki Savage? This is a 2001 LS650P - gets over 50 MPG.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

There's a new Smartcar dealership near me. I may sign up for a test drive. My wife wont let me get one though.

I can get into a smaller motorcycle for around $2000. Maybe not the safest way to travel, but I've got to do something - I'm spending about $400 on gas alone. Exxon/Mobil sends me birthday and xmas cards.

That's pretty damn good for that big of a bike.

Steven, is moving closer to work an option?

Not really...but finding a job closer to home is.

Is it a desirable option?

Yes, but I'm grappling with whether I need to go through an agency or not...and it's a bit of preparation to make a submission.

I've got to do something though. In any case, I need a new set of wheels.

Even if work was closer, you'd still need new wheels?

Yep...the closest company to my house would be Blizzard and they're about 5 miles away. I've used the city buses before when I didn't have a car, but the trade off was a 1 1/2 hour commute vs. a 15 minute commute over 7 miles.
