Gov. Janet Napolitano

In November 2006, Napolitano won the gubernatorial election of 2006, defeating the Republican challenger, Len Munsil, by a nearly 2-1 ratio.

She is currently a member of the Democratic Governors Association Executive Committee. Furthermore, she has also served previously as Chair of the Western Governors Association, and the National Governors Association. She served as NGA Chair from 2006 to 2007, and was the first female governor and first governor of Arizona ever to serve in that position.

On January 11, 2008, Napolitano endorsed Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for President.[7]

In the 2010 Elections, Napolitano is term-limited, so some say she is considering challenging John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat or running for the open seat should McCain retire or be elected President in 2008. She has also been seen as a possible Vice-Presidential candidate for 2008.[3]

Governor Kathleen Sebelius

During the 2004 election Sebelius was named as a potential running mate for John Kerry.[20] In the aftermath of Kerry's defeat in the 2004 presidential election, some pundits named Sebelius as a potential candidate for the Democratic nomination for President in 2008. Many contend that her appeal would be broad among her fellow Midwesterners. [21]As of 2008, speculation remains that she will be a contender for the vice-presidential slot on the Democratic ticket this year, if headed by Barack Obama.[22] The Washington Post has listed her as the top prospect for the 2008 nomination.[23]James Carville and Novak have also mentioned Sebelius' name.[24][25] Speculation that the Vice Presidential nomination lies in her future was heightened by the fact that she was chosen by the Democratic Party's congressional leaders to give their party's official response to Republican President George W. Bush's 2008 State of the Union Address.[26] The next day, she endorsed Obama's campaign, one week before the Kansas caucus on Super Tuesday.[27] Obama won the caucus easily, with 74% support.[28]

An interesting comment on Webb:

Jim Webb has arranged his life so as to maximize his intellectual and personal independence, and minimize the things he "has" to do and the bosses he must answer to. Novelist, essayist, journalist, movie-maker -- through the two decades before his Senate race he's been his own boss as much as possible, and has clearly relished saying exactly what he believes. The federal government office that most nicely matches his previous life is the one he now holds: as a U.S. Senator. Especially a Senator of the model Webb has described as his ideal: Daniel Patrick Moynihan. There are still lots of things Webb "has" to do -- fundraising, constituent service, party efforts -- to maintain this role. But in the big scheme of things, not that many.

The federal government office that least matches Webb's lifetime path is the vice presidency. Some wonderful people have held the job, plus some terrible ones. The ones who are happiest are those who can bide their time, bite their tongue, fly to foreign-dignitary funerals, and stick absolutely to the company line.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I think Obama can and should select a woman for VP - not simply because she's a woman but because both Governors Napolitano and Sebelius have been successful governors, from southern states and highly qualified for the job.
