Question about DCF for South Africa

Hi All,

I am new here but we are trying to go the DCF route as it looks to be much quicker and easier...

However I have been researching and I feel like I know what my fiance and I need, but I am confused as to how I go about getting his police clearance for places he has lived, who do I contact and is there a specific form I need?

Also does anyone here have experience with DCF through South Africa? or for that matter the k-1?

Also if he was in the SOuth African Army does he need a military clearance?

And where can I find the list of certified physicians for South Africa for the medical exam.

Our situation is a bit unique as he is South African and I am USC but he works on a cruise ship (this is his last contract) but he is sailing in/out of Galveston, Texas right now and then in April he goes over to Europe and sails Greek Isles and then home to South Africa about August and we need to get everything scheduled awhile he is overseas, is this even possible?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks-Courtney

Well, I just got a little surprise.. looks like SA is open to the idea of non-resident DCF; I had it in mind that they would not.

Confirming that is your first step, and don't say "DCF"--they don't know what that means. Please read the DCF Guide first.

The police clearance info should be easy to find here at vj; search/find someone who has some from SA and see what they posted about it. There are instructions for searching the old forums on the Advanced Search page.

Someone may have posted the medical details too, but the Consulate will provide all this information to you with the visa application.

It should not be difficult for you to arrange everything while he is away; most of the info will have to come from you anyway. Make yourself a flowchart or checklist and start ticking away. Start your contact with the Consulate's IV Unit and see how much of the paperwork you can have sent ahead to you, and how far ahead you can schedule your appointments. You *do* understand that you'll have to get married (somewhere) and that you will have to go to S Africa to file the I-130, right?

There may be a regional experience posted in the DCF section at www.kamya.com/interview

If not, other DCF experiences will be similar in the amount of docmentation etc that you'll need.

Goodluck!

Hello-

Well your situation is a bit different than ours. As for DCF in South Africa, I am pretty sure you both don't have to be residents there. Found this out after we went through the process in London. Although don't think it would change much. As for Police reports. Get started on those asap. That is what took us so long. We had to get anywhere after the age of 16, my wife had lived for over 6 months. Since she did travel around for a bit, but was never techincally in the same country for 6 months we just used South Africa and the UK as her base. But SA took forever to get her the report back. Africa time. Anyway not sure how much you can get done while he is overseas, because a lot of the stuff requires him being there, well a couple things do, getting a medical and the interview, and recieving and mailing packets back in forth. Well good luck. We are now settled down here in Houston, and to tell you the truth the process wasn't too bad, just be sure to have all the paper work in order.

Cheers

Kevin

If you click on the "south Africa' link under your name, you will be shown all other members on here who have gone through s. africa. That might be a place to do some research, check their previous posts and see who knows what they are talking about.

I love my job.
