Interview pending; steps needed to legally work upon arrival

Hello,

my interview at the US Embassy is in about 3 weeks, and I intend to enter the country (if the visa is granted) about 2 weeks after this. Despite the guides on this website, I'm a little unclear on who I am meant to go about working.

So far I have applied for nothing as regards working legally in the US: I've been focussed on the fiance visa application process.

What do I have to do, and when do I need to do it, to be able to work? Can I, or should I, start this application before my interview? Or can I ask for the temporary permission to work (upon arrival at the airport) until my greed card arrives?

Does my green card come automatically or is this something extra I need to apply for?

Thanks,

Jack.

Depends on what visa you are entering on.

We need that information to answer this question.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

what kind of visa are you applying for.. do you have a current visa application pending..

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!

A K-1 fiance visa, which is pending at the US embassy as we speak.

Jack

At some (not all) US airports you can apply for Employment Authorisation when you arrive on your K1 visa. However, you will only be authorised to work for 90 days (until your I-94 expires). The I-94 is the card that is stapled into your passport by the immigration officer.

Once you have got married (within 90 days of arrival) and received your marriage certificate you will need to send off your Adjustment of Status package comprising:

Form I-485 - application to adjust status to conditional permanent resident

Form I-765 - application for Employment Authorisation

Form I-131 - application for Advance parole (so you can leave the US whilst your Adjustment of Status is pending).

Cost of the above: $1,010.

You cannot legally work without some form of authorisation - so if you get the EAD at point of entry you can only work for 90 days.

After that you will have to wait for the EAD to be issued after you send in your AOS application package. Can take a few months.
