we used Cal Knickerbocker look at my time line at the bottom of this post lol.........he rarely returns phone calls and emails once in a while......and yep im sure he looks at this site because the last time we talked to him he said i know it looks like im not doing anything but i am....hahah.......ok what ever im still how many days past?........also i found that he does not seem to know as much about k1 visa as i have learned on this site........i can only hope that IF we ever make it to interview process if there is a problem that he is able to handle it to our benefit........being this far behind at this late date in the process and having to explain our case to him when we call does not give me very much security that he is even trying to do anything with our case......u know the old saying about making sure that ur problematic clients in any business are made happy? i think he missed that in 101 business......other wise he would at least contact us on his own to at least pretend to be doing something......ok thats my rant about my attorney would i hire him again? from what i have seen so far NO

We hired Cal Knickerbocker too, and as of now im still waiting for my NOA2, Im hoping it wont take us long to get approved. Iam not happy with Cal's service, and i will definitely not want to hire him again..... My fiance thinks he is good lawyer but to me i can already tell he's not....LOL Hope someone can refer a good lawyer, my fiance is planning to hire a lawyer to do our AOS................

That's so strange, I never had a problem with Cal. He got us through K-1 no problem while we were travelling for work all over, gets back to us in no time and helped us out a lot recovering some lost documents (didn't charge for it at all, we only paid a fee for the copies). He's always in touch and so far we have nothing to complain about. But I guess we'll see, that is definitely something to keep in mind

I believe it depends on how much time you have in your hands. When we were going through K-1, both my husband and I were stuck in the office 12 hours a day 6 days a week. I barely had time to stay in touch with my family back home. That's where a lawyer came in handy. My husband dumped a pile of papers (not organized in any way) on him and that was all we did (filled out the forms of course).

Another thing is I don't think a lawyer can speed up the process with USCIS - it takes as long as it takes unless your papers are sitting on your lawyer's desk for longer than 48 hours with no action being taken.

Just a thought really

When I first looked into the k1 visa, because of my hectic work schedule, I looked into hiring a lawyer; my friend knows one in the south florida area, and I was quoted 1500 dollars to file for the k1 visa; mind you, that fee was also discounted since the lawyer knew my friend.

I was pondering on the subject of hiring a lawyer, when I came across this site; after reading all the horror stories people had with lawyers, I had a bad feeling about getting one and I did all the paperwork; If i can do it, anybody can; in the last 3 years I have had about 5 different addresses, lived abroad, can't even find my tax return from the previous year, but yet, our petition got approved with no RFE's; matter of fact, as soon as i sent paperwork, I figured I might as well get ready for an RFE, but never got one. I had my fiance re-read all the documents (scanned them and emailed them to her) before I sent them and she found a few mistakes; then on the day that I went to kinko's to make some final copies and mail my package, I realized I hadn't signed some forms, but because i was so paranoid about it, as I put each document on the envelope, i went over it twice to make sure every field was filled out. So as they say, stay away from lawyers, unless you got a difficult or weird case.

I went and talked to a lawyer before we started the process and I thought she was great. She said our case was pretty simple, neither had been married, no Children involved and she had already been approved for a B-1 Visa a year earlier. I apprecaited the honesty and the fact she said it would be a waste of money to hire a lawyer and I should just do it my self.

It seems like the only reason to hire a lawyer is if the case is tricky. If anyone wants this lawyers name they can PM me.

Like someone else said, hiring a lawyer doesn't speed up the process. Our lawyer took more than three months to get the papers ready, and that to me is too long.

My fiance and I hired a lawyer because we wanted to be sure we got everything right, that everything was in order. Having a lawyer to prepare the papers did give us that peace of mind.

As I started this I should probably state we are using a lawyer. It gives my finace peace of mind. I was fully prepared from the outset I downloaded every form in triplicate.

Having seen what the lawyer submitted I have to admit it is cleaner. So far apart from one minor delay I have been happy with their service and response times.

We are using Holmes & Lolly. My favourite reason for using them is our lawyer has been through this process himself and it was from his experience his entire practice changed.

But as I am only part way through the process watch this space :)
