The cartoons themselves are not news worthy. They are quite inconsequential and harmless, actually.

What is newsworthy and extremely consequential is the reaction of the radical elements within the Muslim world. It was savage and violent, intolerant to the extreme - and showed them for what they really are.

Yes the reaction to those cartoons was (just a bit) OTT, but its arguable whether the cartoons themselves were really necessary in the first place. I think the editor should have known better, personally.

I think there is a difference between being offended and enraged.

If someone were to post a weird picture of Jesus, yes I'd be annoyed and the annoyance would be subject to what kind of weird picture. I'd feel offended I'm sure. But I wouldn't feel completely enraged for a few reasons...1-the person posting it would not be caring about Jesus the way I do and how can I expect them to feel the way I do, though I would wish they would use tact and 2-I would not be so surprised if there were negative things about Jesus posted. If someone went out violently protesting a picture of Jesus portrayed that way, they are not doing what Jesus would do. We can say how we feel and express our disgust but should not go out and start being violent. I am not saying there aren't Christians who would do that(refrain from violence), but they shouldn't be violent and I would not give them any excuse to do so.

As for the coin issue, I am with Scott on this one.

Would I find it offensive? Sure. Would I respond violently, comitting acts of mayhem and murder? NO! That would be far from the teachings of Jesus.
