A background investigation usually differs from a background check in that they are looking at something more in depth.

Also one can get stuck in regular security checks for months at any level, the USCIS, NVC or embassy phase.

I hope your case will move on soon.

I don't know what your time line is so I don't know how long you have waited.

OK I realized you do have a time line and it has been about 10 months since your NOA1.

At this point I suggest you get your senator or congressman involved to hopefully get a bit more clarity and to make sure your case is not

" lost " somewhere but really in checks.

Guys thanks

I have contact senator congress and recently ombudsman waiting on his response. I RECV LETTERS FROM SENATE ETC ABOUT NAME CHECKS AND SECURITY BLAHHH and that it can take months to years to get them complete. This is more than initaila response from FBI and that certain ppl name age gender all that s***. I130 inquiry back in april said i should have a decision within 3mos so that should be July10 if they dont lie . Now on K3 expedite request they say within 6mos or call cust svc why are the two different times ,arent they both one in the same. Now i know many igbo people have similar names but that hapens all the time. I just dont understand all this, what is taking them soooo long to make a decision. the email on the k3 was worded different from the I130, the I130 said additional review. On k3 it states background investigation is still open and they have delayed processing until it comes back or whatever. My senator and congress are really of little help and the senator lady is real nasty she yelled at me te last time i called her.

Sorry Vee for your experience with your congressional office.

I have contacted my congress person and she was very informative and explained that there are about 8-10 different security checks that they complete. They way she explained it was that each check takes time to complete. With there being so many checks it would kinda explain some of the time that it takes to do them. She listed some of the checks but said them so fast that I couldn't remeber them all. But the checks were for my husband and not me, those where done already.

Vee, it seems at this point you have done all you can. Hang in there for the checks and periodically ask for a congressional inquiry.

If they are not helpful then find another office in another city from your reps, they often have offices all over the place in your home state.

They do not have the authority to expedite or resolve anything but just keep on top of things and shed some light on the case.

I am sorry you have to go through this.

Thanks guys, koodos to omoba, zeenusha, and ghana girl forgot your screen name for answering me when i do post

I know they have to do these checks but the question is why soo long . if you look at the timelines on people with african so's no one has had to wait this long for backgrounds this is the normal procedure they do on every alien. (that is what they call it here). And if you find someone who did it wasnt really at this stage in the game, or you may find like 1 person, this is whats confusing me. Even individuals who filed before and also filed for visas in their country get decisions within 6-8 or even 9mos guys. I guess i have to take another trip to nigeria, this is just too much. I guess i'll just sit back and watch out for july sometime, when they are supposed to decide on the I130. I dont post much but i will be so happy when they give me the good news , I will be sure as hell to post it here for all to see.

Blessings

The embassy is determined by where your SO lives, we inquired about Abuja but were told it's not possible to "pick" your embassy. I hope everything starts moving along soon for you both.
