Well I just got back from taking my 4 year old son for his return visit from seeing the civil surgeon. I had to get him a TB skin test done in order to get his AOS case finished. As of April 1st, 2008 all children from age 2 and up are required to have the TB test done. Would have been nice to know this earlier. Anyways, we ended up paying $250 for the test. I couldn't believe how much it was for something so simple. I'm not sure if thats the going rate here, but if you can get the test done for your children before you move to the USA from Canada and they haven't had the test done yet, I highly reccomend you doing so. If I could of had the test done back in Canada, my doctor wouldn't have charged me anything. I just wanted to give a heads up to those with small kids.

We were told that TB skin test is only good for 1 year.

I am not sure if it's only in California or more specifically in San Diego, because of our proximity to Mexico, my children are tested for TB as part of their annual physical checkup. It was also required when they enter grade 1 (as do vision and dental checkups).

Welcome to the USA!! if ya have no insurance, it can be pricey!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about the $250!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
