Pelosi predicted Wednesday that a presidential nominee will emerge in the week after the final Democratic primaries on June 3, but she said "I will step in" if there is no resolution by late June regarding the seating of delegates from Florida and Michigan, the two states that defied party rules by holding early primaries.

"Because we cannot take this fight to the convention," she said. "It must be over before then."

"For now, 2,026 is the magic number" of pledged and unpledged delegates needed by a candidate to win the party's presidential nomination, she said, but "if they decide to seat (Florida and Michigan) this weekend, there will be a new magic number."

While saying she believes those two states' delegates should be seated, Pelosi added that it must happen ''in a way that is not destructive to any sense of order in the party."

"If you have no order and no discipline in terms of party rules, people will be having their primary in the year before the presidential election," she said. "So there has to be some penalty."

She said the party committee will come up with a formula that is "fair and accepted by both campaigns," perhaps allowing the states 50 percent of their delegates. But "if the resolution is not appropriate, then it remains for the (Democratic National Convention) credentials committee to resolve it," she said. Then, "it will have to happen by the end of June" or she will intervene, she said.

As I said, Hillary can see herself to the door next week or the party will show her the door.

Wes Clark and Lanny Davis (both Clinton surrogates) are saying unless FL and MI are fully reinstated (which won't happen - there will be a penalty), HRC will take this to the convention floor.

In the end, they either give her the nomination or she takes her ball (i.e. her supporters) and plays this third party. Imagine Obama vs Clinton till November, if you will. McCain will be relegated to the sidelines. No one will care.

No she doesn't. She's got a Congressional majority to protect and expand. As does Harry Reid. As do many Democrats in Congress that make up the vast majority of the superdelegates that have yet to officially come out for either candidate. The Dems in the Congress know that a convention fight will hurt the Democratic party on all levels. And they have what it takes to prevent that: the votes at the convention. I said for the longest time that Hillary will be gone by the end of June. And that's how it'll be.

In reality you started out saying she would be gone in early May. Then you changed it to June 2. Now you are saying the end of June. I have a feeling in a few weeks you will start talking about it being over in July. Even when Obama gets enough of the SD's Hillary will continue to lobby them to change their mind. Every time Obama stubs his toe she will use it as a reason for them to change their alliance. Remember that the SD's can and have changed their minds right up to the moment they cast their vote at the convention. In reality you started out saying she would be gone in early May. Then you changed it to June 2. Now you are saying the end of June.

Actually, I don't think that's true. I always said that this would not go to the convention floor and have, later, pulled that date up to say that this is not going to reach July.
