Texas town's immigrant-renting rule is struck down

Sounds like proof that the federal govt really doesn't want to do anything about illegal immigration because this would have been a good thing to implement nationwide IMO.

The federal government is made up of idiots so I don't expect much from them. They actually make the Enron management look like geniuses in comparison. What sort of a federal government allows illegal immigrants to walk all over the country and its citizens.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The city didn't defer to the federal government on the matter, violating the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, which allows for the federal government to pre-empt local laws, Lindsay said.

Is there any proof they're illegal or is this based on what you think is a hotbed for illegal immigration?

I mean if you were really seriously then perhaps ICE should get to know you.

Most of them are illegal. ICE isn't going to do anything unless they have Arab sounding names and then they'd be down here like stank on poo! It's very easy to be illegal in my area.... the police don't care, the businesses don't care, the citizens don't care, and ICE doesn't care.

how did u get the illegal immigrant-vision?? I wish I could tell that easy if they're illegal or not

I think you can buy some goggles at the flea market in TJ... If you look through them and hear an Irish brogue and see red hair it dings "tourist", but if you hear Spanish and brown skin, it dings "illegal." 100% accurate with a margin of error of +/- 95

Summer 2001--we met in Manzanillo, Mexico

7/03--Interview in Ciudad Juarez

2/15/04--Married

4/2/04--AOS submitted

8/23/04--Interview in Chula Vista, CA (approved pending name check)

5 EADs, 3 APs, multiple Senators' inquiries and infopass appts, 2 AOS biometrics,

and one move to Seattle later...

3/3/08--AOS Biometrics renewal in Seattle

6/9/08--10 year green card arrived in the mail. My husband is no longer in immigration limbo and is a realio, trulio permanent resident! It says he's been a resident since 04/17/2008.

agree.. I don't see how can u identify an alien legal status just by looking at them, or just because you know they live in a high crime rate area

Besides, how many VJers are renters? How many people are 'AOS pending....' for a long time? I don't think I want the landlord deciding that C. has to be homeless because his paperwork didn't process and he might be an illegal. ICE shouldn't be foisting their job onto the local businesses.

Allamdullilah, you're calling the cops on people who aren't, by your own admission, breaking local ordinances. I'm not sure what you want the cops to arrest them for, if public drunkenness is no longer on the books.

Good point. I suppose we'd still be homeless since we're stuck in the name check and AOS pending. Luckily CA granted IDs with current EAD and foreign passport. Good thing we don't live in AZ.

There are, however, in tact noise ordinances....
