the judge did the right thing./..

Only the federal government can regulate immigration, U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay concluded in his decision.

The problem is the feds refuse to do their job.

Well, they are doing about as good a job as they are with issuing visas in a timely manner.

Which IMO means a big portion of the problem isn't the illegal entrants themselves or the country of their birth.

It's our system.

This one especially upset me because the neighborhood I live in is an illegal immigrant hotbed (and I have been victim to several crimes myself that the police can't do anything for because the illegal immigrants are untracable) and I sit in my house almost every night and watch them drink themselves to ridiculous levels and then, when the cops come because the music is too loud, all get in their cars and drive off.... drunk! And I am surprised every time that the police allows them to drive off knowing they're all drunk.

You should be surprised. And you should be outraged as well.

While immigration is not the foray of local law enforcement, public intoxication certainly is. You should be phoning the Chief of Police in your city and asking questions.

Hence my inability to take the story seriously. Seriously... if it were a public safety problem the problem would have been taken care of from a law enforcement point of view long ago.

It doesn't matter whether you believe the story is true or not.

If Alhamdulillah says it is so, and she believes it, then she as a citizen should do her duty and report the problem.

It's much more pro-active than just complaining about the problem and/or blaming it on illegal immigration.

I suppose I agree with both replies. Specially the last sentence.

That's the problem with having opinions on internet thread boards.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I do my duty by calling the police on nearly a daily basis to let them know that the illegal immigrants are drinking and partying loudly outside again. (and yes that's the words I use when reporting the incidents -- they know they are illegal and they know they are drunk) They know they're drinking when they come out. There is no law against them drinking in the front yard (in my town that used to be considered public drunkeness but I guess times have changed). It's the police who come out and tell them to leave and then sit there and watch every one of them drive off after having witnessed them all discard their bear bottles. Of course, I'm considered the nuissance because I'm taking the cops away from their real jobs of preventing "real" crimes all over the city. :)

Is there any proof they're illegal or is this based on what you think is a hotbed for illegal immigration?

I mean if you were really seriously then perhaps ICE should get to know you.

Most of them are illegal. ICE isn't going to do anything unless they have Arab sounding names and then they'd be down here like stank on poo! It's very easy to be illegal in my area.... the police don't care, the businesses don't care, the citizens don't care, and ICE doesn't care.

So wouldn't making it impossible for them to live here curb that drive to emigrate?

the fence would make it difficult for not just those wanting to emigrate, but for drug smugglers. so yes, there still would be a need for it.

I'm thinking an electric fence would be more appropriate for these scum.

i've always been an advocate of land mines.......

Plus, I think living is a basic human right. But I know where you're coming from.

Living is a basic human right. Living here when you are not a citizen or LPR is not.

Issuing visas in a timely manner is only part of what the Feds are supposed to be doing. Enforcing our laws and protecting our borders is also their job, and they have no will to do so. Occassionally they will throw us a bone and do a raid, but nothing serious.

As an LPR are you not required to carry proof of your legl status at ALL times?

How is asking to see ID (not sure how TX IDs are but in AZ they verify legal status (LPR/Citizen) before issuing an ID) before renting an apartment/house/dwelling to someone not allowed?! I would want to know who I am renting to...

As for the disease, I am almost certain not allowing them to rent a place to live (place to shower/shave/etc) would actually go along way to the ultimate goal of self deporting those here not legally (from ANY country)...I don't know any (and there can't be many) that do not require proper hygiene and after a couple weeks of stinkiness they'd surely be fired and not likely to find another job.

So yes let them live here as homeless jobless people if they so desire....or they can go home, where ever that may be.

This whole idea is silly.

All it takes is one legal immigrant, who is willing to help a dozen of others, illegal immigrants. The legal ones buys a house, the illegals come and stay... one can live at somebody's house without having his immigrant status checked. That somebody, in fact, may not be even living at his property, and at best, just occasionally show up.

So here, you create another beurocratic service which true illegals can easily evade. But the law abiding people will have more hassle every time they move to another place.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - A Dallas suburb's ban on apartment rentals to illegal immigrants, an ordinance passed by city leaders and later endorsed in a vote by its residents, is unconstitutional, a federal judge found Wednesday.

Way to go, Judge!

I'm heartened to see that the judicial branch is resisting the bigotry and scapegoating.

I have to agree. C. had a flap at work, where all of the legal visa-holders (he's the only immigrant) had a rough couple days because the guy that lost out on the bid for the job his company won called the ATF and said 'they got a buncha illegals handling dynamite.' It's all been sorted out, but I'm glad that it wasn't local law enforcement that thought they had the power to regulate that.

Besides, how many VJers are renters? How many people are 'AOS pending....' for a long time? I don't think I want the landlord deciding that C. has to be homeless because his paperwork didn't process and he might be an illegal. ICE shouldn't be foisting their job onto the local businesses.

Allamdullilah, you're calling the cops on people who aren't, by your own admission, breaking local ordinances. I'm not sure what you want the cops to arrest them for, if public drunkenness is no longer on the books.
