Im waiting for the answer too, Charles.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

so you want us to intervene in another country.........

We already do. In that light its either STOP doing so or at least invest in making sure our practices don't harm more than they profit us.

so what is the answer? no intervention or more intervention?

Modified practices. Ensure fair play. Not easy, but not impossible.

Or you can contribute to the solution instead of waiting for something to happen.

Would that be considered fair play ?

Not stimulating the perpetuation of ruling economic classes, to start.

Hey we can be creative right?

How about putting up conditions for our businesses- pay wages that stimulate social advancement for the level of work performed (such a radical notion!); cover academic costs that stimulate generational improvement. As for not feeding the oligarchs in power... condition opening of US businesses with local government investment in social infrastructure in parallel to the private investment our companies.

So instead of, say, making a 1000% profit on our investment and overhead costs, we're talking abou repatriating a 700-800% profit and the rest goes to sustaining higher profitability for those that do the dirty work.

Oh but that is too "liberal"... so its better to keep thing unequal while we continue to put up with the effects, right? :(

Too bad.

Only the federal government can regulate immigration, U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay concluded in his decision.

Like Dean said, the judge made the correct decision based upon the way our immigration laws are written.

If you all want to make something more out of the ruling than that, then you are just arguing to hear your own voices. I can assure you the judges decision is not some sort of comment on the illegal immigrant situation in this country. It was a decision based upon code and federal law. Nothing more.

See above logic- it lays some groundwork for avoiding scapegoats and escapist blaming of governments we support.

until we have standards in place to ensure companies are hiring only those legally authorized to work in the usa, this will continue. and i don't see mexico playing fair until then as there really isn't any incentive for them to.

That's why we can stipulate how our companies play in foreign soil. Hey they repatriate funds this way, so they should also be held accountable to not contribute to the perpetuation of the status quo as it pertains to immigration struggles.

Think of it as financial goodwill with the bonus of profiting on our behalf.

Mexico can be "helped" by friendly, competition as a healthy workforce tends to vote to preserve work conditions beneficial to its sustenance... and this kind of ideation catches on like wildfire.

and if they are dealing with a mexican corporation, that is a big club beating them over the head. is that really how you want us to proceed?

Now, that, would be where democracy is supposed to function, right? ;)

My logic is that if the workers at the American company are happy because of ethical labor practices, causing no shortage of labor demand for those companies, other companies that have lesser labor practices would be at a competitive disadvantage unless themselves adopting more outwardly rectifying labor practices themselves.

Any electorate would swiftly follow suit, voting in officials that are willing to spread this kind of success instead of merely BSing their way through election cycles. Unfortunately, this tends to become a liberal vs conservatives issue rather quickly when if anything, it should be simplified to the sustainability vs problematics level of logic. Many politicians will naturally be opposed to such practices... but- will they be able to resist their constituencies once they learn that "our" companies and those local entities interested in a strong local economy from the bottom up? And henceforth stimulate such efforts on their own terms, from the top down?

Only time will tell. Again, this would have an interesting effect in reducing illegal immigration wouldn't it?
