DCF London Marriage Certificate question

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone has an answer that doesn't include calling the London 'advice' line!

I'm interested in what documentation you took to your DCF interview in London. We have a bit of an issue with out marriage certificate.

1. Washington County, Oregon does not issue 'certificates' they only give you a copy of the marriage license.

2. Our original marriage license had the incorrect date. (Really. For a while we were married a year earlier than we thought! The Brits didn't even notice.....) It was sent back and we received a notarized copy with the correct date in return.

I'm just interested in what other folks brought to the interview. It's like two weeks away and I am freaking out about something I'd foolishly decided was ok.

What happens if they decide the notarized copy isn't good enough?

Thanks!

We brought our Vermont-issued marriage certificate. It has an error on it -- it says I'm 2 years older than I actually am (grrrrr). Obviously it doesn't match my passport or birth certificate (I'm the USC) but this was never mentioned at the interview.

My previous marriage took place in Connecticut; CT certificates of marriage are (or were) essentially just the licence as well, executed by the parties to the marriage and the officiant and certified by the Town Clerk. When I had to get copies, they too were just certified copies. If you're really concerned about this, you could try to get something from the town clerk's office attesting that this is how copies are done. If there is a problem on the day of the interview (and I strongly doubt there will be -- the Embassy must see just about every type of "official" document under the sun), they will ask you to provide greater evidence. But think about it -- they approved your I-130 with this licence/certificate, right? If there was a problem with documents, it most likely would have arisen then.

Good luck -- and don't get too wound up about this!

Thanks :). When they fixed the original one they sent us a letter from the Justice of the Peace saying that we were indeed married on that day. I think that might be sufficient supporting evidence? I also scanned the "original" so I could show my friends how they'd messed up! I might include that as well.

I appreciate the reassurance, I'm really quite nervous about the whole thing!

It's here if you want to see it ;)

Looks very much like the CT one. I think you probably have your bases covered here. If you haven't for some reason, they will let you know on the day. It's not a reason for them to issue a denial, but could cause a delay in issuance if they need some other bit of info. In my opinion, I can't see why they would have a problem with yours when they had no problem with mine, which suffered from a similar defect.
