Now, I have a visa. Next month, I will go to the US to marry my fiance. Well, I need to wait for EAD, but once I get it, I will go to work as soon as possible.

Here is a thing. I got BA from American University as a communication studies major. Well, it means that I love to speak, communicate and interact with people. So during my senior year, I worked at starbucks on campus. It was so much fun.

Now, I would like to get a job at places like nordstrom. I love fashion, cosmetics, sales, customer serives and making results.

While I was waiting for my visa, I was a shift manager at a cafe in my homecountry. Trust me, I grew up in the middle of nowhere. Well, now, I am pretty nervous about job hunting in the US. How did everyone do job hunting?

Any advice? Please let me know.

Best advice is to be patient and look for jobs in many places. Websites are pretty helpful (craigslist, monster.com, etc.), don't forget to check the newspaper. But if you're interested in a particular place (Nordstrom's) you should feel free to prepare your resume, and then go to the particular store, department and inquire about positions. You'll most likely still have to apply online at the company's website, but at least they've seen you and if you get their contact info you can follow up with your application.

In the US, for professional jobs at least, it's more of who you know than what you know. Sure, you can use sites like monster.com, careerbuilder.com, and to an extent places such as linkedin.com to start with. Ask friends if they know of jobs at companies, especially if they know someone who works there.

Alot of companies will hire internally before they post adverts to job sites, so if you know someone on the inside you can hear about a job before most people will.

True that. "It's more of who you know than what you know." My husband has a great job right now because of a friend. In fact, he even makes more than that friend who referred him. As for me, I have been job hunting for the past two weeks. From websites like craigslist.com to monster to any staffing agency I could find online, to colleges and universities. It's endless. You just have to be patient.
