Have to add buttermilk, since my personal Mr. President insists ;)

I also don't understand why they are called biscuits - biscuits are cookies. Yummy biccies!! Also, the American biscuits kind of look like scones, but they are not. All very confusing

So what exactly is shortening again? Can I just use marge instead?

Julie understands me. :luv: And I'm with you on the shortening!

And what is it with these funny 'cup' measurements? :P

Outside is packed with soccer idiots, getting ready to watch the game in the public viewing area downtown. It's 15 degrees and it's raining cats and dogs. I can see them standing in the rain downstairs from my cosy office hahahahaha fools

Yeah, was wondering about the cup measures too. Can I just use any cup? Or is cup a defined measure?

Maybe I should just make scones  or crumpets....oh how I love crumpets!!!

Lard...hmmm...that is pig's grease, is that right? Oink!

My housemate's grandmother honestly believes that the Russians are stealing all of Britain's lard.

Crumpets are delicious! I like them with honey...especially when the honey melts into all of the little holes.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

what measurements for cooking/baking do you use, julie ? :P

Awwww you are so cute!!! I use metric measures...

I was thinking that a cup could be any cup. Just a regular mug would do. Because even if it's not exactly 250grs or ml in there, it will still be kind of right, because the ingredients will be used in the same proportion... not? Ahhhhh Julie can't do numbers!!

Ugh, Coratia just scored

Same proportion - although it gets a bit tricker if the recipe includes, for example, an egg.

If you have a measuring jug you could do as Marilyn says and use the 250 ml mark for everything!

And another UK oddity - here food packaging has to state the metric measurement first and foremost, but everyone I know uses Imperial measurements for baking.

cup's the same, but the density changes the weight

thats why a cup of brown packed sugar weights 220g, not 200g as regular granulated sugar..

and yea, that was a lame goal
