I thought I was moving to a country without so many poisonus spiders etc.....????

well compared to australia, no :P

Yeah, at least our spiders aren't the size of saucers over here.

No just dinner plates by the look of the bird spider picture I just got sent. Apparently not poisonous but from the looks of it, it could eat your face.

i'm just glad we don't have jackjumpers.

I really don't think it's a tick bite. My mom has been bitten by a tick before and she said he'd have known if it was a tick. He said he doesn't even remember anything biting him. I'm really leaning more towards the black widow bite but I'm still going to keep an eye on it. This morning it did look a little better. Last night it had a big red circle all the way around it and was really hot, indicating infection. Today it only had the ring around the bottom of it and it wasn't as hot. I think the antibiotic is at least helping some. My uncle has also been bitten by a tick and had lyme disease and he told Javi it looked like a spider bite. Everyone that has seen it says it looks like a spider bite. The main thing that leans me towards a spider instead of a tick is the pronounced bump in the middle. It almost resembles a mosquito bite.

Hey kids!

Sorry to hear about the spider bite - I hope he'll be ok.

I was bitten by a spider in Melbourne while I was asleep. It bit me in my leg and my leg swell up twice the size. You could clearly see the two bitemarks left by the fangs. I took antibiotics and Iboprofen and after a week I was fine. :D

I went to the hospital with Mom yesterday and she is much better already. As a long term chemo patient, she could have easily died because of this infection, but the meds work and she is better. You should see her, oddly enough, she doesn't look like she is sick at all. I have no idea how she does it.

I am still in shock, I spent all Tuesday night bawling my eyes out, not being able to stop. Luckily, I was able to go through the day yesterday without losing it, but today I feel so worn out and tired and still so close to tears, that I was tempted to just call in sick. I just feel really fragile and so sad.

Also, Mom and Grandma finally picked their urns and showed me the photos yesterday. That also just doesn't make things better, although it is good that we talk about their upcoming death. Mom picked a square teracotta urn with a French lilly on the front and Grandma a nice blue one with a round, sliver top. It looks like a Chinese tea box.

I was planing to go to Dublin for the weekend to catch up with some friends, but had to cancel that as well. I just don't see myself happily frolicing around Dublin at the moment. I really look forward to the weekend, so I can just sleep and recover from this. Ugh.

what's the antibiotic they are giving him? if it's any of the below, then all bases are probably covered.

When treated in its earliest stage (the first few weeks after infection), Lyme disease is almost always completely curable. Antibiotics taken by mouth for 10 to 14 days are very effective in fighting the first stage of Lyme disease. Doxycycline and amoxicillin are the two most commonly prescribed antibiotics. Ceftin®, Zithromax® or other drugs may be used occasionally.

Well I hope it is something innocuous like a tic or something and it was just an allergic reaction.

They gave him Keflex. I can't remember the dosage of the pills but he has to take two pills twice a day. So he's taking 4 pills a day. I'm pretty sure but not positive they are 500 mg. That may be way too high though. Hopefully it'll fix whatever it is. If not I'll haul him back to the doctor on Monday, sooner if it gets worse.
