We have an account at Bank of America, and they're really starting to piss me off. They've had a $2,000 check on hold for almost a week now. Um, we kind of need that.

Our other account is at BankNorth and I've never had this issue. Funds are available the next day at the latest.

Are long holds on checks typical?

I hate Bank of America.

I've banked with BofA for years, I've never noticed that it's taken that long. Usually 2-3 days.

When I have questions/problems, I go into the branch and talk to the people who work there. I find that to always be much more helpful than calling. Their phone people are tards.

Yes, they certainly are. Thanks for the suggestion...I'll have my husband stop into the branch.

I guess with the long weekend that's why it's taking so long. But we deposited it on Friday! Argh...

There's a cutoff time during the day, after which that day no longer 'counts'. I think it's 2pm. So if you deposited it on Friday after 2 pm, there's technically only been 2 full workdays since then - Saturday and Tuesday. If you deposited before 2 pm (or whatever the time is, if not 2pm it's close to it) then you're on workday #4 right now.. which is definitely too late.

Yes my mom deposited a quite large insurance check and im thinking it was like a week but it always showed up as pending...

No? I thought they processed on Saturdays even though their branches have abbreviated open to the public hours.

I know if you do online banking you wont see your balance change until a Tuesday morning nothing changes thru monday (in the compputer)

Yes this is what the pleasant CSRs told me on the phone. So I don't get this. Why? Are they on a power trip? :lol:

How is it that BankNorth has no difficulty making funds available the next day, but BoA takes their sweet a$$ time?

Are their systems outdated or something and they can't clear it that fast? Does BankNorth make funds available before the check has actually cleared?

BC BOA are all full of idiots and their policies are ####### :)

They say they hold it for 10 days to make sure it clears, and doesnt bounce.

probably...

I know at Chase the funds have always been available immediately after deposit. I know it's not possible the funds have cleared, so Chase is taking the risk I guess. I dunno. Banks and the banking industry are a mystery to me...

I really think though in this case, they are not counting Friday or Saturday and today is only the 2nd working day. I'd be pissed if it hadn't cleared tonight and wasn't avaliable tomorrow morning.
