Hello,

I am not yet in the process of AOS, but my interview for the K1 is pretty soon and I have to go to the doctor for my medical examination.

I'd like to start thinking about my marriage and the AOS, because when I arrive in the US, my fiance and I would like to get married asap.

Anyway, what should I ask to the doctor I will see to make sure I can use the results of the K1 med exam for the AOS application??? Do I have to make her fill up the DS-3025 and I-693?? What should I do to make sure I can use my K1 visa med exam for AOS??

And about the wedding? I think that a medical examination is required, is this right? Can the K1 med exam be used aswell??

Thanks for your help.

Faustine

When you have your medical, ask the doctor if you can have a copy of the DS-3025. This can then be used at the AoS stage. People who enter the US and file AoS based on a K1 visa do not have to undergo a new medical if the medical for the visa application was done within the last year. All you need is the vaccination information. A USCIS approved civil surgeon in the US can then use the DS-3025 to complete the new I-693 with just vaccination information.

As for the wedding, the rules vary by state. I imagine what is required though is a blood test to check for aids, siphillis etc. Results of past medicals (such as the K1) cannot be used. You will need to go to the local health department to get the test, and then use the certificate the health department gives you to apply for a marriage license. This is the process I had to go through, but as I said, the rules on marriages vary from state to state.

Thanks for that!!

I called the doctor. She told me the embassy didn't allow her to give me any copy of my medical, so I guess she won't give me a copy of DS3025... Do you think they could give it to me at the embassy??

I doubt it.

When you go for the medical, the doctor will want to see proof of your vaccination history to be able to complete the DS-3025. If you have anything, take it. You can then use the same records in the US to get a civil surgeon to complete I-693. They don't need to have the DS-3025, but it makes the process easier.

If you don't have proof of your vaccination history, you may end up having to get various vaccinations done. These vaccinations are not required to be approved for the K1 visa, they are needed to be granted AoS. You can get the vaccinations done in the US if you wish.
