BUT I MUST SAY NEVER DIET! Diets do not work, they are only temporary and as soon as your body resumes normal eating habits, you will regain that weight and then some. For immediate fat loss, reducting calories by eating the right foods in moderation is the way to go, then once the fat is lost, then you increase your calorie intake (still eating the right foods) to "maintain" your desired weight.

Very well said  By diet, I meant eating the right amount of food and the right types of food. Starving yourself is bad! 5-6 small nutritious meals per day is best.

yes, having a proper diet, as opposed to "dieting"

Dieting won't get you fit, you have to exercise. Thin people who never work out can be in worse shape physically than someone not as thin but who works out on a regualr basis.

You're exactly right Sister. I am the prime example of being thin and out of shape. I've never really dieted. I just eat sensibly but don't deny myself something if I want it. I just don't go overboard. I had my body fat percentage tested about a month ago so I could start an exercising program. It was 27%, which is close to obese, even though I only weigh 110. I can tell so much difference since I started exercising. I feel better and I look better, not so much jiggling anymore. I really think the two, a good diet and exercise, go hand in hand to be in the best possible shape you can be in.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

Which works best in getting you into shape?????

Sex without a doubt. Can do push up's, instead of pumping iron, your pumping flesh.

pumping your flesh pole?

btw my answer to the original question is healthy eating habits combined with regular exercise is what works best for me

My answer is both work great together.

Exercising works best for me cause I will eat less :pop:

that makes no sense at all. Why would you eat less if you exercise? Usually after i exercise I'm hungry.

Though it sounds glamorous (I guess), sex burns significantly fewer calories than hard exercise (i.e. running).

Unless you're a top person and you last forever :P

That's why I like Jalapenos on my pizza, cause it makes me sweat and I feel like I'm burning calories.

There is something true about it. When you eat something really spicy that changes your body temperature your body will burn some extra calories to get your normal temperature back.

Makes alot of sense! If you are someone who is trying to lose weight, exercising keeps you from over eating and adding on extra calories. Actually it's a known fact that exercise supresses the appetite and I usually drink more water during and after exercising so I have no need to eat more after exercising!

but the more exercise/physical activity you do the more you need to eat to fuel your body!

The question is sort of like the question of "which is better for building your net worth, cutting spending or increasing your earnings?" Well, either can work, and in one sense, it shouldn't matter. But it's really easy to out-spend any raise you get. So any good financial plan has to include some sort of control on spending. Some people will budget more formally than others, but everyone who builds savings over the long term has some control over their spending.

Returning to the diet/exercise question, it takes hours of vigorous exercise to burn the calories contained in a couple of jelly donuts, which you can eat in two minutes. If you work at a sedentary job and only exercise for an hour or so every day (or three or four times per week), it's really easy to out-eat almost any exercise plan. So any plan of weight loss has to include some reasonable control of eating. Some people will naturally have smaller appetites than others, or will have less of a sweet tooth, so different people will have different levels of formality and strictness to the way they control their eating.

But it's not an either/or question. Both diet and exercise play big roles in maintaining fitness.

Yes and I eat 3 to 5 healthy meals throughout the day, starting with breakfast! The original question to this post was "Which works best in getting you into shape?????" If I only diet without exercise I would not be in any good shape without the exercise, so exercise works best in getting me into shape!
