Did any of you use a lawyer or just fill out the forms and do them yourself?

You will find that VJ is mostly a DIY community, and most did the immigrations forms by themselves.

I filled mine out myself, there is a lot of useful information on this forum to help guide you through the paperwork. Unless there is complications with your case, like divorces, deportations or anything like that, there is no need for an attorney for the first portion. But that is entirely up to you, whether or not you feel comfortable doing it or if you want someone with experience to do it. But research your attorney thoughly... you don't want to pay someone thousands of dollars and they have no clue what they are talking about.

I used an attorney for the initial part of the K-1 and that was a waste of time and money. I found a paralegal in San Diego that cost me $300 for the AOS. They were great. They've helped with all the renewals for free, and there have been a lot since we're stuck in name check.

However, I might never have used them if I'd known about this site when we started this process.
