Puerto Rico driver license

Hi all,

I got my green card through the K-1 process and I'm living in Puerto Rico for a year. Like two months ago I've started the process to get a driver license from here. When I went to the office they told me they need to send my information to customs office (immigrations office) and then they will be able to continue with the process. Well, is about two months now and they have not received any response. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to make this process quicker.

Maybe easier to "move" to FL and get the DL there. Waiting on Obras Públicas in PR is nearly third-world like- specially if they are in verification with USCIS over your K-1. You may end up having your Residency before you get the DL.

Did you mean "citizenship? Martin already has residency.

I stand corrected- Obras Públicas has no business checking the validity of a green card. IMO its another genius DMV worker that probably misrepresented DL procedures.

In the meantime... chill Martín... vete a Culebra or Vieques...

Oh yes, I'm enjoining this beatiful city. But is true there are some serious problems on some goverment areas.

So, ... I will have to wait right ? .... how is that "move" to florida works ? ... is legal ?

Getting a PO Box in Florida may be enough to apply for a drivers licence there. It depends on the state laws.

Seriously... Culebra... Vieques... there is only so much of Old San Juan that even locals can stand! But I'll take it anyday over the rollercoaster spring we're having (as usual) in Chicago.

Look at it this way... in your waiting you can tag along with someone and explore La Isla... in a year you still won't see all there is to see. One thing about Puerto Ricans is that once you make friends its hard to get rid of them and you stand to get plenty of offers to go exploring in groups.

The FL move is legal as long as you can claim some kind of residency there. At the DMV you would be asked for a couple of bills with an address. I don't think a PO box would do it.
