good day,

I am asking in behalf of my friend.

He will be going to the Philippines this June, and will be staying for 10 days.

I read in the Usembassy site regarding the requirements of marrying a US citizen in the Philippines.

His question is this,

1. HOW many days does the US embassy in manila release the legal capacity to marry/

2.How many waiting days the marriage license be relese?

thank you.

Hi there,

1. It's not days, it's only minutes, or less than an hour. (for my husband it took less than 30 minutes)

2. 10 working days from the date it was filed.

here is link for more infos: Marriage of American Citizens in the Philippines

Applicants may apply for the "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" at the Embassy's American Citizen Services Branch everyday from Monday through Friday from 8:00 - 10:00 am.(except Philippine and American holidays). The American must present his/her U.S. passport. There is a fee of $30.00 or its peso equivalent for the affidavit, payable in cash only.

Tell him to watch out for Philippine holidays!

Took me 20 minutes to get mine . If he's divorced he MUST have original divorce decree.

He will have to wait 10 days until he can marry. Working days? I don't "think" we only waited 10 days straight. Not sure tho.

I agree with shape and haole  I suggest for you to tell him that 10 days is not enough. Tell him to spend at least 15-21 days to be safe.
