I may be playing devil's advocate here but my question is, if western societies are so corrupt, why do people from "non-westernised" countries want to come and live here anyway? Why would they want to be part of a corrupt and immoral society?

On another note, we have to understand that there are somethings we will never be able to change, no matter how much we may want it. Prostitution, homosexuality have been around since time in memorial. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because one person sees something as okay, it doesn't mean that another person has to accept it. That is what makes us individuals and not clones of each other.

It also makes for a hell of an interesting discussion.

;):P

Are you serious? They think USA is a big money bag - the land of the free

If all persons engage in safe sex practices the spread of disease is pretty much eliminated.

We're all aware that this isn't likely to happen and IF it did it wouldn't eliminate the spread of disease since there is NO form of protection that's 100% effective. No matter how safe you are, there is always the chance of something getting by and the more partners you have relations with, the higher the risk of that happening.

What you seem to be suggesting is that restricting sex to marriage and restricting marriage to men/women relationships will effectively eliminate most other criminal activity

No, I said "decrease" not "eliminate"

If I was forced to give one factor that would have the greatest influence on whether someone would engage in criminal behaviour or not, I would site poverty not sexual freedom.

I have to disagree. Western countries are supposedly the richest countries in the world, yet have the highest crime rates.

Meanwhile, there are other places in the world where ppl live in tents, eat once a day if they're lucky and have the lowest crime rates.

It's my opinion that lack of morals is the leading cause of crime.

Really?

Then why is my brother gay and I'm straight?

Choose to be gay, my a$$. My brother knew he was gay since a very very young age, he knew something was different about him since as long as he can remember but he didn't know exactly what until about 8.

So, when did you pick your sexuality cause I sure as hell know I didn't wake up one day and choose to be straight.

I won't discuss this with you because it's obviously something you take personally as it affects your brother, making it difficult, if not impossible, for you to take my side of the argument as anything less than personal. :)

Personally, I don't care what anyone does in the privacy of their own home.... I'm talking about what is accepted in public. Two men or two women who want to boink each other in privacy have no affect on me at all..... just don't allow them to adopt, be artificially inseminated or influence any children with their corrupt lifestyle.

That is one of the most insensitive, insane things I have ever read. Two loving human beings being able to care for a child that has no home or family and you say OH NO!!! because you wouldn't want them to "become" gay. Who the hell do you think you are?

So cruel and heartless.

Again,

I won't discuss this with you because it's obviously something you take personally as it affects your brother, making it difficult, if not impossible, for you to take my side of the argument as anything less than personal.

Fine, discuss it with me then, cos I was just about to type the same thing.

I'm bumping this post cos I dont want you to miss it, Alhamdulillah The bits in purple are my opinion as well, and I don't have any gay relatives so the 'you're too close to this and emotional' response won't work with me.

Ah yeah I know I'm setting myself up for debate - but has anybody ever thought about what being homosexual is all about? They're the exact same as us eat, sleep, study, get health problems etc ... exactly like us. The only thing with them is they base their lifestyle on sex. Just because a man wants to have sexual relations with a man he'll change his whole life and lose family and friends (same thing with a woman) Only because he/she cared that much about sex and doing it with the same gender. Hey everybody has their choice of being homosexual or not. I don't agree with the basis of that lifestyle - it's kind of selfish if you ask me. You're willing to lose your mother/father/other family members (if they don't accept) , prejudice remarks, people treating you differently thinking you have STD's/AID's (typical stereotype) only b/c you want to have sex and live with the person of the same gender.:blink:

The Church of England - a major non-pagan religion - has openly gay ministers and bishops. And is happy to have them.

It's not just the Church Of England.

A few years ago, the Episcopalian Church appointed an openly gay man as a bishop.

A few years ago? So it's a newly accepted matter that wasn't previously accepted? I'll assume, since homosexuality isn't a new matter, being pressured by ppl crying "intolerant! intolerant!" had something to do with their change of policy.

If they're a christian church, I'm curious as to what, exactly, they consider the sins of the men of Sodom and Gomorrah if not sodomy/homosexuality that warranted God destroying the city?

Remember Christianity/Islam/Judaism are on the same basis - Modern happenings/or things people say have happened have nothing to do with the basis that was established in the original books of God

Oh dear, I hope you're being intentionally obtuse!

Here, I'll clear up the confusion:

If ppl are starving to death I'd reckon the food the other person is eating may seem worth stealing or killing for.... but they don't.... no, instead, in America where most ppl live comfortably (maybe not rich but not starving and with some luxeries) people will steal anything they can get their hands on and kill each other for a pair of shoes.... moral bankruptcy...

That was a silly joke on my part. I'm not prepared to get into a whole 'what causes crime?' debate since that is wayyy too complicated a topic to discuss in a thread. I would, however, like to hear whether you'd prefer a kid to grow up parentless rather than have that child grow up in a loving home with gay parents.

I don't see a question here other than who I think I am..... I am me.... what other answer would you like?

So, when did you pick your sexuality cause I sure as hell know I didn't wake up one day and choose to be straight.

ITA again

I learned to be attracted to a certain type of man from different circumstances in my life... family, friends, stories, past relationships, culture.... there are many factors that teach us who to be attracted to.

Also, you can't compare one person to another because no one has the exact same life experiences as another.... including siblings.... even identical twins grow up to be different ppl because they have different experiences in their lives.
