Rather like comparing homosexuality to beastiality, pedophilia and incest?

I like apples, oranges and bananas - but I think its useful to recognise that while they are all fruits - they are not the same.

It's all "sexual lifestyle" choices one might engage in.... some might argue that a 14yo or 16yo is old enough to make their own mind up about who they want to have sex with and should be able to consent to sex with an older man.... others obviously disagree and raise the legal age of consent to 18.

I can see the argument that an animal can't consent but then again it could be argued that a female animal goes in heat and "wants" her male master to do her....

It can also be argued that, as long as both family members are of the legal age of consent, they are grown adults and capable of making their own decision to have sex with their family member... society however, for whatever reason, disagrees....

The point is that there are limits as to what any society will accept as normal sexual relationships and there is nothing wrong with me or anyone else wanting a society that excludes lifestyles we deem deviant because of our religious beliefs.

Sure - but as I said before society is not static, it never has been. Nor does its morality or ethics evolve along strictly logical lines. The simple fact here is that there is broad mainstream tolerance and indeed acceptance of homosexuality - if that were not the case we would not be having a public dialog about homosexual marriage. Simply put - there is no mainstream dialog relating to the acceptance of incest, pedophilia, beastiality etc so introducing them into a discussion of homosexuality is rather irrelevant - as irrelevant as say comparing Mein Kampf to the Bible.

It's not fear to believe it's a SIN and immoral. I don't "fear" homosexuality, I loathe it, there is a difference.

I'm sure "hate the sin but love the sinner" factors in somehwere here. I rather doubt though that its easy to separate that loathing from making a moral/value judgement about individuals.

I think the above three comments are out of line and bogus. You do not have to be gay to be accept being gay as one of the normal ways that humans can experss love for one another.

As for gays are selfish - yet more spurious thinking. Being a homosexual isn't just about sex any more than being a hetrosexual is. If it was, we wouldn't be having the argument about whether or not to allow homosexuals to get married.

All nasty references aside, it is important if you wish not to be ignorant and intollerant to go beyond the 'eww' factor of what homosexual sex is (if you are hetrosexual, you will not find the idea of homosexual sex 'attractive' after all) and look at it simply in terms of an expression of love between human beings.

Of course, making these crass jokes probably disguises some deeper discomfort.
