the normalcy has been what we've been pining for all this time

we've walked the streets of Ottowa, Montreal, London, Paris, Lille, Prague and Sydney together, but what we REALLY wanted was loads of washing and grocery shopping

I think you're over-thinking it, Jeraly - and that's not a criticism; I think we probably all do, to a degree; I know I did, at least - but I think you'll cope beautifully, and be very happy

humans are amazingly resilient... you'll just see a new situation, and adapt to it; I can't imagine you having any trouble

No - you're right - I think things through to death - I think in some bizarre way it reassures me - even if only to find that other people have experienced the same crazy emotions I am going through. I think (there is that word again!) that it is all too easy to feel like you are the only person in the world going through it all and, for me at least, it helps to hear about how other people coped so I know that there is hope.

Of course - I know things will be fine and I'll settle into the sunbathing washing and swimming ironing and shopping cooking and relaxing cleaning :lol:

You're about to 'cross over to the other side', Allie. You know how us old timers keep telling the 'separated ones' to be patient? That's because we know the 'normalcy' will come, and it's not the same as the romance of the LDR.

I guess I understand what you are saying about somebody 'catching' you on the other side. The immigrant gives up sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much to come here all in the name of love. I think it's particularly sad when you read some of the cruelties imposed by an impatient USC on an immigrant spouse. I've tried to be patient with my husband but I know on some days I failed. Still though I tried to 'catch' him as best I could while still getting back into my daily life, which was there and impatient for my return. Jobs, children, family, friends - they can't be on hold forever.

I think keeping busy usually helps...though I'm the USC, not the immigrant so I can't be an authority here. I've just moved into a new apartment for my fiance and I to start our new life together, so I've got a list of jobs for him to do so he doesn't feel lonely all day (as I don't have the vacation time to take off).

I also hope that since he has spent a great deal of time in Chicago that it won't seem too foreign to him. He was over here about 2 months in 2006 and before and since has stayed here a week or two on several trips.

Yeah - I totally agree rj - I think I am a very insecure person at the best of times and I can't wait for things to settle down and become normal! Of course, this doesn't mean that I am expecting to move over, freak out for a week then settle into perfect wedded bliss - I know it will all take a lot of give and take on both our parts.

But I can't wait for that Bring on the next challenge I say - at least we'll be going through it together

Just found out we got the apartment we were after as well - something small but concrete to have to look forward to

Yeah - I totally agree rj - I think I am a very insecure person at the best of times and I can't wait for things to settle down and become normal! Of course, this doesn't mean that I am expecting to move over, freak out for a week then settle into perfect wedded bliss - I know it will all take a lot of give and take on both our parts.

But I can't wait for that Bring on the next challenge I say - at least we'll be going through it together

Just found out we got the apartment we were after as well - something small but concrete to have to look forward to

What kind of apartment did you get? I just moved a week ago and I love finally having a place and not having to worry about roommates (well I will be having a much more permanant one soon of course ;-)

Lol - I actually spotted it but he must have been impressed because he called right away and saw it on the same day! So between the two of us I think we have done very well!!! Apparently it is all newly renovated as well - I just want to move now - I am so excited about seeing it

it makes SUCH a difference knowing where you'll be! I bookmarked the folder of photos of our place that Dave took when he first saw it, and went back periodically to look at them... it made actually walking in the door slightly surreal, but also familiar, and in the meantime I knew what I was looking forward to
