Gary,

Try to read the trend - and keep in mind that the Dems have yet to unite behind their candidate. You hope that they won't but I am quite certain that they will.

What a difference 10 days can make... ;)

Now your hanging on the polls. My question still stands though. If, like you say, America will not be fooled again then why is it so close? I was making a point and not calling the result. Perhaps it's because that Obama isn't fooling the people with his false hope? I guess he needs to pass out some more koolaid.

Gary, you believe that McCain will be the next President and I do not. We will see who is right soon enough. Until then, we can go back and forth all day debating this. It won't be particularly fruitful. Let's just agree that both candidates have their obstacles to overcome. One will do better than the other You will be pulling for your guy and I'll be pulling for mine.

well for a conservative he sure has turned his back to the dark side. maybe the democrats he votes for will let us get hit by terrorists again and then send them a box of chocolates saying that we are sorry for all the trouble we have caused you terrorist. don't worry about us you are more than welcome to attack the US when ever you want.

hey, i thought 9/11 happened when a republican was in power.

Yeah, 9 months after he took office. All the planning for 9/11 was done on Clintons watch. Hell, Clinton was offered OBL on a silver platter and he let him go. But who cares about such minor details?

so bush had nine months to do something and... he didn't.

And Clinton had 8 years to do something and didn't. So what is your point?

that the argument that if a democrat is in the white house it will mean a terrorist attack falls flat. by your logic, if a terrorist attacks during the next president's term, bush had 8 years to do something and didn't.

eeke are you not reading what is being typed? clinton the democrat did nothing. Bush the republican dropped lots of bombs on the terrorist. so how did bush do nothing

he had nine months in office to send out intelligence and get information on what Osama was planning. He did not. 40% of his first year in office was spent on vacation. We should all have such jobs where we can spend that much time vacationing.

YEa wow... a campaign run on fear sounds so familiar. I hate to say it but a terrorist attack can and probably will happen regardless of who is in power. Better to spend time working towards finding a solution than to haggle over which single person can stop an attack. Voting for McCain just because he "Might" have the balls to stop an attack - nah I don't think so. Bush's agenda now isn't working so I doubt McCain's would have much more of an effect.

p.s. just because someone was a good soldier in no way makes them the best candidate for president.

Thank you!

I love the comments from the Obamabots. Posting stuff like this puts you all in instant defensive mode and it's fun to watch you run around defending him. It's like kicking an ant hill. The next few months are going to be fun.

really lol

ditto

Folks joke about the Obamabots, but at this point, it's more about rallying behind the presumed winner to defeat the republicans. I know that many folks do not agree or trust Sen. McCain (including myself) to follow the conservative script, but rest assured they will back him versus putting a democrat in office. Believe that...

 so bush was supposed to instantly identify the threat upon taking the oath of office, perhaps via some omnipotent power that comes with being the president, direct intelligence gathering systems and operatives in osama's direction and in just 9 months from the ground up have enough hard intelligence listing the date, time, and methods osama was planning?

oh please!

no, just saying that bush didn't do %^*( for nine months and then people were surprised when something really terrible happens? come on. if you held a regular job and spent 40% of your time on vacation, you'd be fired.

Finally!!! Thank you Dog. Now we can have a real conversation. I don't know if you have noticed what I have been doing. Someone states that so and so will win, no doubt, then I respond with an equally extreme remark on the opposite pole. All I wanted was for you to recognize that it's wide open. Who knows who will win? It could be either one. Obviously you would like to see Obama win and I would like to see McCain win but to sit there and say "America will not elect McCain for a third term of Bush" is just nonsense. Ok, so now you and I can dispense with the absolute declarations and maybe have a conversation on the issues.

Maybe you should take a cue from it Steven. Admit that McCain has an equal shot at it and stop with the "bu bye White House" remarks. Then maybe we can have a conversation on the issues also.

Is it though? McCain's stance on many frontline issues of the day is little (if at all) different to that of GWB. You'd be hard pressed to find a difference between Bush and McCain on the War on Terror, Illegal Immigration, Healthcare or the economy. Sure he's a bit softer on the social issues and the Environment than Bush, but surely you can't blame people for making a comparison between the old and the new. McCain does after all have to contend with voters who have been tired out by the last 8 years of Bush's administration and are genuinely looking for a different path.

But to say "America WILL NOT elect McCain" because of Bush is total tripe. It's obvious from the polls that at least at this point it's anyones game.

Sure - there's no hard and fast guarantees who will win. But the Bush legacy is a problem for a Republican candidate.

McCain does NOT have an equal shot at the White House simply because the sitting President happens to be a Republican, in his second term, and suffering from the lowest approval ratings of any president since Truman. As much as you hope and dream for, McCain cannot just divorce his ties to Bush when he's been one of his staunchest supporters over the last 8 years. That's the reality of it...it's just too bad you can't acknowledge that. The McCain of 2008 is not the McCain of 2000.

It's great that you want McCain to win, although I'm less sympathetic to your cause when you yourself had said how much you despised McCain back when Fred Thompson was your man...you'd call him names like a RINO, even suggested that you wouldn't vote for him. The fact that he's the Republican nominee must have been one bitter pill to swallow for you and a lot of Republicans...and that will come into play at election time. McCain can't be everything to everyone and yet without reaching out to everyone, he's not electable. Also, Republican voters, like Democrats have done in the past, can and will vote for a Democratic candidate under the right circumstances, so you can't assume that every registered Republican is going to vote for McCain. The Democrats have had record number of newly registered voters, they outraised the Republicans and close to 80 percent of voters say they want change. Now you can spin that all you want, but the reality is...things aren't looking favorable for the Republicans retaining the White House for another 4 years.

That's my 2 cents. ;)
