OK- So I've gotten this far. I've sent in the I-864 and am waiting, waiting, waiting. I called NVC and they said that they mailed the ds-230 packet to my husband in Mexico over a month ago. He hasn't gotten it. I would like to download the ds-230 and send it in right away. My concern is that we may need to send something else in (birth, marriage cert., etc.) or a bar code sheet. We are so incredibly tired of waiting and our son can't take much more of this.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you.

Have your husband just feel out the DS-230 and send it in to you now. There's no need to wait for the NVC packet. There's nothing really useful in it. All it tells you is to go online and download the Ds-230 and send it and supporting docs in. You can generate the barcode cover sheet using James Shortcuts.

There's no need to wait for NVC at this point. The hold up is coming from your end not theirs.

I'd also suggest sending in the DS-230 on your own, there's no need to wait for the embassy packet. :)

First, check to see if your embassy is an appointment post. If so, then you'll need to collect all of the documents relevant to your case (i.e. birth certificate, marriage license, police certificate etc) and send them with the DS-230 to the embassy. If you are submitting your papers to the NVC then you'll need to have everything that is not already in English translated into English. Anyone fluent in both the native language and English can do the translation. For the translations you'll need:

1. The original document (or a certified copy)

2. The document translated

3. A statement swearing to the fact that the translation is true and that the translator is fluent (conversant) in both languages. I recommend getting this piece of paper notarized.

Your husband will need to sign Part I of the DS230, but not part II!

Don't forget to say "present" in the from/to part of sections 20 and 22 to indicate your husband's current home and employment.

Second thing is we cant say "present" in from/to part it is meant for date only you cant type letters on it.

The DS-230 goes to the National Visa Center - not the embassy/consulate. I don't have the DS-230 link handy, perhaps someone can post it here.

You can write "present" on the form, after you have printed it out.

1. No, everybody needs to send the DS-230 to the NVC directly if they're going for CR1/IR1 visas. Also go to the DOS to find out if you need to submit extra documentation with the DS-230.

2. You can write "PRESENT" on it by hand. That's what we did, no big deal.

I revise the nvc procedure once in a day, thats why i got shocked when Ladyjane suggested that we can send DS-230 to embassy, although she is gold member that compeled me more to ask the question otherwise i know the procedire.

Guys if we cant type letters on from/to column of DS-230 that means they want us to type dates on that column so why should we type and print all columns and write present by hand.

Roza, the only reasoneable explanation for writing by hand the word "present" after printing the form is that the person in charge by creating the online program to fill out the DS 230 didn't think of having the space allowing letters, since the spaces were about dates on that item, that's all, but it's all right to write "Present" after you print it out, no big deal at all. This procedure has allways been used and it's being accepted by NVC with no problem, that's what matters.
