Or, we could nuke the 'other' half of the world, you know, the crappy half - or 3/4 in population terms.

Sure that's one option I've heard here a couple of times. Since many of us completely refuse to accept we are the planet's leeches. Eventually, though... we run out of blood to suck.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

That's happening already, which is one reason the economy is stalling. I don't like it any more than the next guy. I love the washing machine and the car and all the rest of the junk that makes up our modern world but I do realise that what we are doing now is unstastainable. What is required is a huge leap from an ever increasing economy to a sustainable economy but no politician is willing to pick up that hot potato.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well those that do are immediately labeled "evil liberals."

I don't think even an 'evil liberal' is going to come out and say that we have to make a huge leap in life styles or end up fighting one another for the dwindling resources.

Are there really people out there that think planet earth has enough resources to keep the US going on its present course?

Oh but of course... there is a political 'fee' all US politicians must pay under the current political structure in this country. Who cares if it slows down positive changes to the way we treat the planet?

What I find incredibly hipocritical is how some of these same folks that support sustaining so much gluttonery on our part have such a cow when it comes to seeing other nations imitate our own bad habits.

Really nice view of America. Thank you for sharing your opinion of us.

You mean 5% of the world population consuming 25% of the planet's resources doesn't seem a little odd to you?

Then again, I am for doing things a little more intelligently (sustainable). Thank you for sharing yet again your lack of concern for our own future as its no biggie if you take enough, you'll run out eventually.

But let me not suggest what is not there as you do in my case. I know you care as I do... which is perhaps why I am interested in people taking only what they need to be comfortable, not gluttons.

And yes... it was also a metaphor as PH notes...

That's just bizarre Gary. You would rather obsess over a metaphor than consider the implications of the headlong consumption of non renewables.

One day you will get that head out of the sand and realize that oil is a finite resource unable to sustain the growing energy demands of a growing population with growing economies and living standards. The solution is not a drill. ;)

There's still plenty of oil in the sand. Leave Alaska alone.

No, 25% is the right amount of resources for us. The problem is the fact that we're only 5% -

we need to work on reducing the world's population by about 3 billion people - through war,

famine, disease and any other means necessary.
