Not that it would make you feel better but better thorn in someone's a## but a faded memory I say! I have alot of these "hate" family reaction to my religion and me coming here ... but in the end of the day - WHO THE HELL CARES! They donnot walk in your shoes ... so they will never know! Just as someone already said, Keep your head real real high and use that ignore button! Even in real life! You will soon have your SO with you ... focus on that!

Thanks eveyone... I knew I could find the support.. and JJ my husband would never ask that in fact he swore in Arabic on the phone when i told him and I said "Baby?" he said"what? "you shouldn't say that" he laughed so hard cause I knew what he said was a bad word. lol,

We want to move to Portland to be near family but there is a bigger muslim community in Seattle. In the end as REda says we should only care what Allah, him (or me) thinks and noone else.

I know I should do as he requested but have no idea where to stay if I can't stay with my mother and driving down for the day is just not an option with kids. Anyway, i'll let it all cool down I would love to get him (BF) in a conversation around this but he just has a closed mind and heart.

it's times like his i feel so lonely it's nice knowing I have you guys no matter what or when...Shoukran

Rajaa,

Hold your head up girl and be proud! You know in your heart you are right and this man is wrong. My husband dealt with something similiar the other night from an ignorant family member which is also a good friend of his. This man said he hated Muslims that they wanted to take over the world and this and that....Well, I said to him, I would have choked him! He said no, that is not the way that God wants you to deal with people like that. He said he was patient, didn't want the other person to feel wrong with their belief but he started saying things to an extent that he struck the man's curiosity. This man says things like why don't you drink? My husband will explain to him what the Koran says and that it is bad for you. He was so ignorant he said it wasn't bad for you...okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! I would want to say stupid but not Ayman, he let him talk and didn't take it to offense. He said next time I will show him something about the Koran and drinking...strike his curiosity again. Also, this same person told my husband he prays to a false God. He prays to the bloodline of Ishmael.....where in the world did this come from?? Ayman did explain I pray to the same God you would, the one that created the world and Adam and Eve.

I wanted to share this recent experience with you to see it happens all of the time. See Rajaa, the ignorance can be everywhere. You are in a minority but not the wrong minority. I think you will have to overlook this man but show him that God is merciful and that you can be merciful too. He made that remark because of ignorance which unfortunately we have a lot of in our country due to wrong perceptions that the media often gives. You love your mother and sister and do not let this interfere with your relationship with them.

(F) Tasha

Well said Tasha!

Best of luck Rajaa. Thank god for good friends and good advice here! Big hugs and I'm sure everthing will work itself out. God always has a plan! (F)

Well, it was me, I did my Shahada last week! I have studied Islam for almost two years now and feel that it is the religion for me. I will not go into all of the reasons why I converted and did my Shahada because I don't want to cause any controversy with any Non-Muslims but I feel very good about my decision. I was Christian for 32 years before then, studied the Bible, previously taught Sunday School and knew what I was doing when I decided to accept Islam.

My poor husband caught the bad end of the deal there for awhile. I would say show me this or show me that and he would just point and say find out for yourself. I would yell and say I'm asking you, tell me, show me!!! He would say if God is leading you, you will find your way love. I now know that it is because he didn't want me to think that it was something I had to do for him or for anybody to say I did it for him. He wanted it to be something that I felt from my heart and led to do on my own. And for this I am extremely grateful to be married to the man that I love. Through his actions did I see how peaceful Islam was and should be and through his devotion did I see him living as an example for the love of Allah. Seeing this is what struck the curiosity to learn more and then I was able to let go of my preconceived misinterpretations as Allah led me through my new journey.

I want to say thank you to all of you that Allah guided to help show me my way. I know some of the questions I may have asked may have seemed silly to some but it meant a lot that some of you were willing to go the extra mile to help me to understand.

I'm taking it easy and slowly and learning every day. Jackie and my hubby are helping to learn Al Fatiha and I think I am almost finished with it minus a few verses. I am praying beside my husband have got the movements down, just learning the Arabic for the prayer and concentrating on the meaning so I can feel it when I pray.

Please remember me through my new journey in life. I pray that one day I can be a light to others as some of you have been to me. I pray that I can be a good wife, mother and servant to Allah. Thank you again. (F)
