Well Hitchooo.. good question. I had been studying Islam for many years (military Intel) and always had a muslimah friend around me different ones throughout my life but always had at least one.

I was raised catholic where we were taught to pray to Mother Mary and ask forgiveness from a Priest. (both human) I started questioning that at quite a young age.

There is a scripture in the old testment (i am paraphrasing here so bare with me) God said worship noone but your GOD..... how do we find it acceptable to worship a man? I know we are to believe he is God on earth (Jesus pbuh) but even Jesus (pbuh) said to Pontius pilate when he was asked "Are You God?" Jesus replied you said that not I...

When Jesus was crucified (still makes me feel so sad) he looked to the heavens and asked "Why have you forsaken me?"

These are a few that lead me away from worshiping Jesus as God on earth... how can and why would he say those things if he was God????

Anyway, I know this is a very "hot" topic and I dont' mean to start a disagreement but these are what I found to cause more questions about my deen... started reading more about Islam and the Qu'ran and asked tons of questions to my husband (which wasn't my husband at the time).

And Hamdolah after many many years... said my shahadah in December last year.

Salam

im proud of you , you got to be muslim through your reading and exploring,. inshallah it wont start a disagreement as we specifically pointing out the reaons of being muslim , if it were because of your previous religion or because of something in Islam .

and dear i assure my wife reads bible for me alot , i ask her too . Bible has many values and ideals. that my wife itself was surprised it was in bible , bible insists on modesty , on the great importance of the family life, i was even surpised that it sounded more strict regarding the relation between men and women . the point is , Jesus gave many parables. that i can say some claimed jesus said he was a god through one of these parables like ,,if you see me you see father , i dont remember it exactly , . just cant get it .

but Dear , we can back to Islam , and say whats the great about Islam , and how it affected the various sides of your life.

Thank you

I'm not sure how many of your are aware of sunnipath.com but they have specials for new muslims and some of the courses are actually free for new muslims. I have taken a few courses from them and find them to be very very informative and easy to do if your schedule is hectic.

This is the link describing the discount (#7) http://www.sunnipath.com/Academy/Online/In...on/tuition.aspx

And although the course has already started for this semester here is a good one for newbies that will be run again :

I was doing well.. but now I am feeling as if I am going down the tubes fast again..... I wanna wear lipstick!! Now that my habibi has his job we only talk everyother day @ 30min. We're planning a trip for me in September insha'allah but I feel so icky. I tried retail therapy last night now I just feel bad about that too. I don't wear lipstick cause he doesn't like me to when I go to work but I feel so down... silly huh?

Also, can't seem to keep track of dates and days ... maybe I am going seanile (spelling????)

I was never one to wear a LOT of makeup but I did get into it a little bit and would wear mascara, under eye concealer, blush and lipstick. Now I wear nothing mainly because I'm lazy but also because doing wudu 5 times a day tends to wear on you if you're constantly reapplying, you know?

Now I just do undereye concealer if I remember to but hubby could care less about that. Not to mention my hair is always in a ponytail since who's gonna spend the time making their hair look good when they're constantly throwing hijab on going in and out of the house??? He could care less about that too and let me tell you why...he's used to it. He grew up with two sisters and knows what women look like without makeup and fru fru hair.

I would be lying if I said I didn't go through a mourning stage with the hair products and occasional makeup but I think I'm over that now. Once you get used to it your perception is like on a whole new level, you know? Now I look at the women here at work and outside of work who spend a lot of time in the bathroom freshening up their hair and makeup and I think for what?

It's the inside of you that counts both to God and to your husband. (or it should be that way imho anyways). I'd rather have my soul shining from salat and making dua and giving zakat and not wear makeup or do my hair up than look perfect on the outside and empty on the inside.

Seriously it is a freeing feeling once you get over the mourning of what used to be. Hang in there. (F)

very well stated

on another note:

I have found myself feeling guilty every time I see a muslima who is covered properly and I'm not. I really feel that I need to work on that. soooooooooooooooooooo I went to an islamwear store and bought some gauntlets to cover my forearms/wrists. I've worn them the last 2 days and honestly...I LOVE THEM!!!

The only thing I don't like with the pair i have on today is that the wrists are a little tight so I think I'll make some thumb holes and they'll be just right. They actually keep me cooler. (yes i'm admitting it to those of u who i thought were lying when u said that covering was actually cooler....u were right). Anyway, I'll try this for a while and ensha'allah I can work my way up to hijab soon.

As a non-muslim married to a muslim, I have few innocent questions if you ladies will please help me out. My husband tried explaining to me, but i just don't understand) Is there something in the Qu'ran that specifically states woman cannot where make-up? I'm a bit puzzled reading about the ladies that do not wear make-up because when I lived in Egypt many woman wore make-up. I would always comment to my husband how beautiful the faces of some of the woman looked in their colorful hijabs. I love how they do their eyes with the kohl too. My husband has never mentioned anything to me regarding my make-up and I really like to play up my eyes and I have to wear lipstick, although I chose to wear light colored lipstick. Is a lighter color lipstick allowed? Like a more fleshlike color? I apologize if my question is stupid, I just really want to know. Thanks ladies!

Amal, can you please show a picture of these gauntlets? I keep thinking of something from the midevil times when I think of a gauntlet.

Muslim women can wear makeup but if they pray all 5 times a day they probably have to make wudu and that means they have to wash their face with water. Reapplying makeup sucks when u have to do it 5 times a day..ugggg.

I'm at work so i can't post any pix but maybe one of mah girls can post one :)

Waterproof makeup :) I actually love some of the islamic clothing styles. I bought so many tops and dresses when I was in Egypt. I must say that's the one thing I like about Egypt. You can go out shopping and not have to worry about seeing everyones crack hanging out of their pants or the breasts about to pop out of their shirts. I must say that Americans need to learn about modesty.

I tend to sweat and have extra oil under my eyes. I've been using a waterprrof undereye concealer by Mayelline that I love! For blush I use Blushsense. That stays on too! I also use an eyeliner by Lancome that stays on from the time I put it on, till I take it off. I can't even wash that off, I have to use eye makeup remover. I supposed when I put my make-up on, I want it to stay on.
