Jealous girls are worse though!! Usually of shaytan. This girl from my university saw my husband and always looks at him when we walk by hand in hand in downtown next to school and he didn't know she liked him. Today she asked me who he was and how long we been together and I said "we been together for couple of days now" and she says ohh ok I was just making sure cause I remember dancing with him at my party 2 months ago! But don't tell him bc I was drunk and might have done something. Wow I didn't know he could come and go thru USA and Algeria like that  I told my spouse he was so angry and asked what she looked like so he could slap her and talk to her parents. Yeah as much as I'd like that it doesn't work like that here.

Daaaaaang that's triflin...and many other adjectives. That's funny you guys hold hands, my husband and I never touch each other in front of people over here, and I think he'll still be like that in the States even if he sees people all up on each other, because that's just the way he is. I had to warn him about my family members so that they don't catch him off guard lol. His family is very *shy*. If I knew a girl liked my husband, I'd keep HIM locked up in the house and make him wear hijab! Because like I said, chicks can be triflin...and don't forget that there's nothing that a shaytan loves more than to cause problems between a husband and wife, so let's keep our wits about us.

LOL If I try to let go of my hubby's hand when we're out he'll freak out  On our honeymoon in Cairo, I had to tell him to stop pulling me because he's a lot taller than me and walks faster than me.... I found myself almost being dragged down the street until I got a backbone and told him "Look man! You're pulling me!!! I'm gonna fall!! Either let go or slooooooooooooow down " He was like why didn't u just tell me? So now he walks slowly so I can keep up and he doesn't have to release the hand. But we don't kiss or anything like that in public ewww lol

As far as women... YES women can be beyond trifling, especially the hoe doggies around here. They don't care if a man's married or anything. It's like a freaking challenge for them!:angry:

Is that why the Muslim women never go out of their house? Well, sometimes they go shopping (in fact if they wanna leave thats all they do:) and I've seen maybe 2-3 working (in the mall) here in Boston when i'm out. But it is always the guys who go out and leave the women alone by themselves. The men go play/watch sports, go kayaking in the river, even have halaqas together. There's maybe one small group of Muslims I saw who are into sports, but the leader of the pack does not like me so I am not in their clique.

I cant wait til habibi comes home because he does not treat me this way. He is the only person I have who likes to go out and actually do things:(

sorry I dont want the last observation to be taken out of context. I do know Muslim women who do work, one even owns her own business. I, too, hope to own my own business or at least be self employed someday cuz I'm sick of big corporations that eat people:)

But I would still say the ratio of Muslim women who leave their house (beyond shopping) is greater than the ones who do go out and do more than just shop. The Koran does not say that women should stay in the house like hermits. We are allowed to go out, provided we are not doing haram (like bars, clubs, etc).

And I dont think the Koran says leave your wives at home all the time and the man goes out. I believe that a woman can go out and do things just as a man can. (halal of course). But my views are not shared:( I'm glad that my husband feels the same way I do and even we go out and do things together all the time when he's here. I could not sand to be locked up! Maybe some women can and like that, but it is their right and its a free country to do what you please. but it makes it bad for thsoe of us who do like to go out...the picking is slim when it comes to making friends amongst Muslims:/

I also have a question... I changed my last name to my husband's (we both agreed on this) and I have a friend that was very upset at my doing this...telling me it's not allowed in the Qu'ran. Yikes, I've already got my social security card back with my habibi's name now what should I do??? Is it really that bad?? Is it Haram? I couldn't find it on the "haram" list

All a Muslimah activity group would accomplish is tea parties:) But one time the brothers went kayaking. I wanted to go too but the one guy's wife said no she does not want to go. So the man gave me one of those "It is haram for you to come with us" looks. Instead of being a coward, I stood up to all the sisters. (What I was trying to accomplish was to get a seperate group for us girls to go). I said "These brothers are going kayaking and how about if us sisters get a group as well for a few hours the afternoon?" All the women just stood there and looked at me and some of them said no.

Consequently I went home crying, punished for being a woman.

I think people are doing more and more the western way now. I actually kept my last name though because my husband and I never discussed it. I was believing what I saw Muslims do here and people on islamway who said no dont change their last names.

Boy I sure look like a dumb girl now:) After marriage, my husband asked me why I did not take his name. He actually had a sad face:( I told him why didnt he say something, he was there when I filled out the paperwork:) But also I told him Muslims dont do that. He said no, they are going the western way more and more now. He said even his sistger who lives in the US has taken her husband's name.

So after he gets back and we get him settled, I am going to change everything and take his last name. I regret not doing so in the first place:(

I think that's more cultural than religious. The groups that I used to hang with in Revere are not like this at all. We would go out to lunch a lot, though not kayaking...not to say we wouldn't but no one ever brought that up.

There is one mosque in Quincy that is just ridiculous I have heard and doesn't allow women in. I can see those people doing these things. Again though, seems more cultural.

I've seen it argued both ways-- one that it's haraam (or makrooh) because it changes your inheritence, and the other that it's not haraam/makrooh becuase those people who do it culturally account for it-- none of us in the west are under the impression that a man and wife who share the same last name are related by blood, and we keep track of maiden names.

FYI, you can use one alias legally. So if you don't want to pay to change your name at this point (depending on your local laws you may have to pay if it wasn't done at the marriage), then you can use his last name as an alias. You can use it with family, friends, etc and just have your legal name. I changed my name the first time I was married to his but never used it other than legally and persisted in my maiden name.. and I eventually legally changed my name back to my own before my divorce. The thing is your alias is not for "nefarious" purposes, so you're ok :) I worked under my maiden name, I went to school under my maiden name, etc... never did bother anyone. I wasn't hiding my legal name, I just didn't like it, and I was using my maiden name hich is my birth name-- I wasn't coming up with an off-the-wall name. This time I didn't change it at all and I am still "me." I have had plenty of people try to attach his name to me and I don't mind-- but I may let them know otherwise if it's some kind of registration, etc. I don't care about cards and whatnot :)

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.
