confession: I don't wanna fast this Ramadan. :(:(:( I'm scared. Last Ramadan I swear it was the fasting that set me into my gallbladder attack and life has sucked physically ever since. I'm cool with the stomach problems I have because in my mind it's paying for past sins here on earth which I heard is a lot better than paying for them in the hereafter. (though I can't recall where I read it but it's true both in Catholicism (they loooove to suffer!! lol) and Islam I believe.

I'm seriously not motivated and NOT looking forward to it.

Doods, 2 thoughts:

1. Find a doctor who is either a. muslim or b. not completely against fasting for any reason and seek their advice. There are doctors who would advise you not to fast, even if you were perfectly healthy (such as my mother's doctor, who she has apparently consulted on my behalf, and will now tell me every chance she gets that I should at least drink water during my fasts, despite the fact I have been fasting consistently for years and never had any trouble aside from the occasional headache). It may be that fasting simply isn't healthy for you, and in that case, you could simply pay the fidyah, compensation for a person who is unable to fast.

2. Submit a question to Seeker's Guidance about your situation. I submitted a question this afternoon, and they sent an actual personal response letting me know they would be getting to my question soon, not an automatically generated response saying they recieved my question.

Fasting can be a physical test with discomforts, but it isn't something that should make us seriously and chronically ill.

I have severe GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) that makes it painful for me to go even 8 hours without food (like when fasting for blood tests) and I am pretty scared about fasting this Ramadan too. Not to mention fasting for 14 hours in the Egyptian heat...

Thanks Rahma I'll submit it later today.

I have IBS and GERD and take two Prilosec/day. If I skip breakfast, then by 11am I am getting sick in the bathroom. It's weird but it's exactly like when I was in my first trimester with my firstborn, except I'm not pregnant and it's been this way since last September.

I tried fruitlessly to find how to register so that I can log in and submit a question but I'm just too darn stooopid in the am I guess because I can't figure it out. I can't figure out how to start the farm on facebook either so that's not saying much. :P (I did however just learn how to change the font on my blackberry so all hope is not lost!)

Thanks I just sent it.

BTW the Book of Nature by Camille Helminski is really helping me s-l-o-w-l-y emerge from the spiritual funk I've been wallowing in. here is an excerpt. Mind you the first almost hundred pages are a little tough to read through.....took me reading it twice and some parts three times (especially the quantum physics parts) but it's oh so worth it!

For those who didn't make it to ISNA this weekend (somehow my non muslim sister got to go and I didn't  ), they've put up some sessions from years past. Nothing from this year yet however.

http://www.isna.net/Conferences/pages/45th...ns-Webcast.aspx - last year

In particular, there was a session on Ramadan and the Qur'an - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...84343&hl=en

Ok, the weirdest thing happened today. We were in line at Target and my husband brought up the snorting sound stuff. I never told him about it but he was telling me about a fight he and his ex had when they were first married and her sister got involved and made the aha sound and how it was about as bad as the snorting sound! Just had to share......

Where do they get this stuff?

I told Hubby that I wanted him to SHOW me where snorting was bad and would basically discount any prayers for 40 days and he looked at me horrified and said "You think I am LIAR!" I just don't get it, doesn't make sense.

So Aha is bad too?
