That and the anonymity gives people a certain boldness they would not otherwise have. You know people wouldn't say most of that stuff to your face.

Yes, twisted, sick and nuts. I assume it is almost impossible to prevent this person from coming back as another screen name right? I know some applications can block an IP address but for a psycho they can go to any pc and make another screen name. Very strange but doods....hang in there sister. This person has been a royal pain for you but you know who's better

Just wondering...has anyone ever read "The Book of Revelations" by Kabir Helminski? I think ummsqueakster gave me the first few pages via a pdf file but I want to get the entire book. I see it on sale at a few sites online. I absolutely love the pages I've read though and am starting to wonder if I'm more sufi than anything else.

One does have to be careful that the sufism they're studying doesn't stray too far away from islam itself. Thankfully from what I've witnessed, universalist/a-islamic sufism tends to draw people closer to islam, introducing it to non muslims who may convert, rather than draw muslims away from it.

http://sacredlearning.org/general_talks.htm - a million different short talks by Sh. Husain Abdul Sattar, a khilafa of Sh. Zulfiqar based in Chicago. Not very esoteric, which is great for me, because when things get too philosophical, I tend to glaze over and tune out.

Can't say enough good things about this book. It translates a small chunk of the text, then Imam Zaid comments and makes it relevant to our lives today

http://islamicbookstore.com/b8118.html - Purification of the Heart, one of my all time favorite books. A utilitarian approach to tasawwuf/tazkiyah (purification). A translation and commentary on various diseases of the heart (hatred, vanity, fraud, anger) and how to erradicate them.

In short, Sufism gives life to both the outward and inward. As for the outward, it does so through good deeds. As for the inward, it does so through the remembrance of Allah, leaving reliance on other than Him, adorning oneself with praiseworthy traits [akhlaq] and purifying oneself of the taint of base traits. This was possible for the early Muslims [salaf] merely through keeping good company, just as knowledge of the Book of Allah and the Prophetic Sunna was gained in this way without the need for books and the sciences recorded in them. Then, when the situation changed, it became necessary to record the sciences, to compile and transmit them, and to build centers of learning to teach these recorded sciences. Likewise, when the Sufis saw the change in people’s condition, they introduced spiritual exercises and retreats to dvelop the outward and inward, and they built Sufi hostels [zawiyas] and centers. It is clear that these are all mere means, as [the recording and systemization of] the Islamic sciences, and the goals [of Sufism] are firmly established by the texts of the Book of Allah, the Sunna, and the sayings of the Companions and the Followers [tabi’in].

Ladies and Gents....I need a pick me up. It seems like I am having a hard time with my praying and just down right being lazy. I know this is so wrong of me and I shouldn't be like this. It is taking a toll on me also. I am seeing that there are lots of problems in my life with Malek hurting his arm and being sick, issues in the marriage that are not in my control, money etc. I really need an inspiration right now. I have no idea why I feel like I am straying. I know that this is wrong of me. I just feel alone sometimes. I don't want to go into personal details but pray for my family and that I can regain my closeness with Allah.
