Hi Tasha & Rahma,

Thanks for the welcome wish and dua, really appreciate it. :)

My cousin told me that my grandpa was smiling and light. We always believe that this is good (among my family at least), and hope that God will accept his ibadah and good deeds and place him among God's loved ones. I'm just really glad too that my grandpa met Ryan a couple of times and felt comfy with him even if they dont speak each others' language.. :) I'm stubborn and have a mind of my own, but family's blessings and understanding is very important to me. And syukran that I have both now. Altho, my mom is not so pleased that im so far away ;)

So sorry about your grandpa. I am sure he is in better place now.

About the mom situation? We got the same situation hence we are going back for visit again this summer

I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. I'm looking for a Qu'ran study guide. Not a memorization type of thing, something like a bible study guide. I've looked for a long time but haven't found what I've wanted. I want something that has scripture, context even stories that would go along with it. I've found some basic stuff for kids (small) but not very in depth. Anyone have any suggestions?

Oooh I'd be interested in that also.

I have undiagnosed adult onset ADD so memorization type stuff just won't do for me. :D

you know what ladies...after going back a couple and reading you talk about the head dress. I see that alot of you have converted and wear them.

Are there any Christian women VJers who cover their hair?

I've been thinking about it myself.....

Are you asking if there is a Biblical basis to cover? Or, if a Christian wife chooses to cover out of respect for her Muslim husband? There is a whole movement within certain denominations/sects in Christianity that advocate dressing modestly including covering the hair. Google "Christian Modesty" and you'll see a lot of options.

As for just covering out of respect for your husband - that would be totally up to you. Discuss it over time and determine when, where, why, and how - also be prepared for some flack from others over it. It was one thing to say "I do this because of my beliefs/religion" it's a whole other ball of wax to say "I do this because my husband likes it/expects it". I know I'm biased on this due to my past but I tried to get work related responsibilities changed to suit what my exhusband wanted - it didn't fly and in hindsight I should have never asked. There were times when I did wear a scarf or shawl - like going to the mosque for family things or to speak with the imam or when visiting family who expected all the women to be covered - but daily life? Nope...

There are also still women who attend church with their head covered with a veil...just depends. I know it is very common in Latin American countries.

Thanks Tom & Tata.. Or is it Tata who's posting here? :) Have fun on your visit back home.. Whereabouts in Indonesia? We will only be going back for my bro's wedding March 2010 as Ryan was just there with me in Malaysia last month... My mum was asking if Im going to live here for good or going back in future, we have no answer at this point. She was difficult to deal with when I went and work in Mindanao, Phils for 3 years, but I suspect there wont be any shouting match over the phone this time around coz I'm married. ;) But we shall see...

Women used to cover their heads in the Catholic church, but it's not done anymore. Other than that, I don't know of any Christian women that feel they need to cover their head (except for nuns of course).

like she said, it is very common in latin american countries. i've seen it there with my own eyes, and i've no doubt staashi has too. on women who very much consider themselves members of the catholic church.

and anywhere there's a sizable russian/eastern european immigrant population, yr very likely to see christian women with their heads covered, for religious reasons.

Ok, I know this sounds very uneducated about some religions but I saw this show on Lifetime called Loving Lena or something like that. She was Jewish. She didn't show her true hair but wore a wig or scarf over her head in the presence of a man that wasn't her husband. She said in the movie it was religious custom. Again, this was a movie but can anybody clarify this?

Yeah, I was thinking in the U.S. So what kind of cover do they wear? Is it like a scarf or something else? I don't think the Quaker women do, do they? Hmmm....

I have a girl I work with that is Palestinian Muslim born there and raised here in NY. She wears a wig to work with very modest clothing and typically a neck scarf. I was taken back the first time I saw her thinking perhaps she had some health condition for wearing the wig. However, that is not the case. It's her interpretation of covering in order to be successful in corporate america (her words). To each his own... (F)

The wig thing confuses me, granted it's not your hair, but it's still hair....I dunno to each their own I guess!!!
