......when begging for volunteers to help with ANYTHING at the youth center finally pays off, even for a day. I had a retired couple show up yesterday at opening with a whole bunch of food, and they proceeded to stay and clean for an hour or so. They're coming back on Saturday, which is our work day to finish the new basketball court and clean the place well with the kids not there. I also had a mom stop by for a couple hours to help supervise the kids and help me clean (cleaning is a large part of working with teens, I've found ).

It wasn't an easy day, but it would've been a hell of a lot harder without help. Now, if I can just start getting people to come on a consistent basis.

Good gravy, Wyatt! That is awesome! Can honestly say that I am a wee bit envious of that!

On another note... as of 5pm yesterday, I am officially unemployed! First time since i was 15 years old. I took a couple of leaves of absence to travel a few times, but I always had my job waiting for me. Cannot believe it -- it hasn't even really sunk in yet! Also, if all goes as planned, I will be flying into the US next Friday. Pretty cool.

So now, i guess i'll hang out on the couch, scratch my butt and I dunno... J/K I actually have tons of stuff to do but i do plan on taking it easy today as this is the first saturday in years where I don't have to work nor am i doing something busy in lieu of work.

Hope everyone's well and happy and that your journey's are going well and if you're in the US already, that everything is cranking right along...

best,

LGG

Yeah...I was quite stoked to see all the numbers lined up on the tax return sheet. I had it done by H&R Block, so I'm confident it wasn't a mistake. The fact that I deliberately had extra money taken off of each paycheque played a role in that. Still, it feels like a minor windfall...and it's going to help with the transition in the U.S.

But I AM justifying a CD binge down at Zulu Records today.

...when you discover a tire problem in time to prevent a dangerous highway crash, and also learn that it was a tire problem, not an alignment problem, saving some money on having to do an alignment check on a care you don't plan on driving any longer than this year anyway?

You mean, your tire's not supposed to look like this? :-P

...when, on preparing to move to the US, you can just transfer jobs to a store in your new hometown? Yvonne's moving from a stock associate position in her current store to a sales associate position here in Rochester. :)

...when, within 28 hours of getting the job locked in, you drive away in a shiny new (to you) car? She's also a new owner of a 2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ. Pretty nice car, with all the bells and whistles. Since my car is really old and annoying, she's letting me drive it for the next month while she's back in Toronto closing down shop and performing in a few more concerts with her handbell group :-D

I tried to find this thread last week but couldn't. :(

Congrats on the leaves, OBX. I used to be 3 ft deep in leaves at my house in Canada, and only me to rake. Man, I hated when the wind blew and I got all the leaves no one else had raked. lol

 No kidding. Why is it that leaves from the left neighbours and leaves from the right neighbours all found their way into my yard?

I'm thinking I should stand outside with coffee for the recycle guys when they come for the pickup...it'll take so long for them to collect all of our bags.

Are you allowed to leave that many out? :o I think our limit was 6 where I lived.

My 100+ bags were over a couple of weeks of raking, I think my max last week was 32 but it felt like 100!

If there's one thing I love about NJ it's our garbage and grass/leave pick-up. We can put out as many bags as we want and they'll take them. As far as garbage goes whatever we can fit into our large green bin the truck will take! And we have twice a week pick-up!
