ok, i have a question. might have been answered somewhere else but i'm just too lazy to research..

you have to send in the beneficiary's original/certified copy of the birth certificate with the AOS (affidavit of support), correct? but i already sent that in with my I-130 petition.. that doesn't count, does it? so, get another certified copy?

better ask now and get an answer, that way when i get to the philippines we can get another copy and take it back with me

jen, i dont think your spouse's birth certificate was needed with your I-130 application. even if u did, u shud just have sent a copy....well if u can get a certified copy to NVC, u shud b fine...i think...

yeah, i know it wasn't needed but i think i "overthought," if there's such a word, on that too much and sent in unnecessary things. darn me!

so even if i had sent that certified copy to USCIS, the required certified copy for NVC still needs to be sent even though it is already with my file?

am i making sense?

jen, if u sent in the original to USCIS, they r goin to keep it in their file and will not return it. your best bet is to ask your husband to get another copy from the birth certificate issuing authority in phillipines and send that to the NVC. this copy will be returned to him during the time of his interview...hope i am making sense now :)

Sorry Jen... Iam bummed out for you.

Sarah that's not good.... insha'allah the expedite will work and we can get you out of harms way!!!

no touches on mine still.

Also, do I have to have a birh certificate?? They took my only copy in Morocco to marry my husband :dead:

and yes Rajaa does mean hope, my husbad never wanted me to lose it so we decided that was a good name for me during my conversion before we married.

rajaa, ur hubby will need to provide his original birth certificate with his DS-230...this will later be returned to him when he appears for the interview..if u r a naturalized US citizen, u dont need to give ur birth certificate...a copy of ur citizenship certificate is sufficient..

hello HOPE! i'm bummed but not really. life goes on..

i don't think you have to have YOUR birth certificate, but HE does.. better have that one ready when you prepare the affidavit of support. they are going to want that, i think

Rajaa, I only had one touch since NOA1 up to the time I got approved and that was last May. I wouldn't worry much about not getting touched. I'm sure things are moving along.

Jen, just get another copy of yours or your husband's birth certificate. You can file for a copy online at NSO website and just have it delivered. I'm sure you might need it sometime in the future.

05/01/08 - Mailed I-130

05/04/08- I-130 delivered

05/08/08 - NOA1

05/09/08 - check cashed

05/15/08 - touched

07/14/08 - I-130 approval email notice received

07/19/08 - received NOA2 hard copy

i am going to have him order at least 3 certified copies for future purposes. he lives in the city so it's easier for him to get the copy at the NSO. longer and more expensive if i order it online..

nightsurf, what time did you get the approval notice? what time does it state on your email? just curious

Thanks Jen, cmnb and Rajaa for asking, it was fortunate i wasn't present there at the time of explosion.

As for the touch...hubby got back to his city today from his trip and found a letter from the USCIS stating that they have received the expedite request. That touch I suppose could be related to that as both files were touched.

Rest is fine. Rajaa I was reading a book the other day and came across this name...so for the record, I do not have any skills in arabic whatsoever but would love to understand what my step-mother in law says about me in arabic :hehe:

Seriously Rajaa she can speak English and even though because of her age we are on great terms but hubby hasn't taught me any Arabic yet (either he doesn't want to or he is not good at it)...technically everything is well but I would love to secretly learm the contemporary Arabic so this year when I visit my husband's extended family in Amman...I can sneak around finding out what they talk about concerning me.

All the stuff a wife has to do.... :innocent:

Also, I love the way you wear the hijab...really nice.

Thanks... It's funny but I never realized how many different ways there are to wear the hijab until I started meeting oher muslimahs...

I want to do the same thing!! i've been looking at local colleges to see if they offer Arabic. The other side of me is worried cause I kind of like the "ignorance is bliss" thing. My husband teaches me what he can and when I visit we have nightly classes and during the day he speaks to me in ARabic so I can learn. Eventually we'll learn insha'allah.

take care... running off to work now.

We got approved!

So says the website! On the 22nd! NVC here we come! I neeeeed to put that timeline up! but in the meantime (since I'm too giddy right now)

received on May 8th

hard copy May 10th

check cashed 12th

NO TOUCHES (is that weird?)

Approved June 22th

Hope this means good things for all other May Filers still waiting

CR-1 Timeline:

USCIS:

04-30-2008: I-130 Sent

05-08-2008: Received at California Service Center

05-10-2008: NOA 1

05-10-2008: Hard Copy

05-12-2008: Check cashed

07-22-2008: NOA 2

NVC:

10-27-2008: NVC sends an RFE requiring about my J-1 visa two year home country residency requirement. 3 days before the requirement (that never applied to me in the first place) would have become void.

11-7-2008:APPROVED

11-28-2008: Case fowarded to embassy after we get "a little help from our friends"...Interview scheduled for Monday 5th of January

12-30-2008: Interview cancelled by phone. A rude consular officer says "we have our reasons and will call you on monday."

01-05-2009: They don't call, so I call them and re-schedule for 01-07-2008.

01-07-2009: Interview. They don't say we're approved. They don't say that we're not approved. In fact they hardly say anything. No request for more documents or weird questions. They don't want to see any evidence. Just weird. They take my passport though, so most likely we are approved. Or else they just wanted my passport.

01-29-2009: The lovely consular officer tells me I can pick up my visa whenever I like!

01-30-2009: Visa in hand!
