You are right Lynn, we think it was just Egypt Air. Others came over and bought their ticket differently than my husband did and had no problems. Also, I didn't think my husband got the emplyment stamp but was looking through his passport and on the very back of the I94 I found a red stamp with a staple through it that stated he was able to work until 7/23. He has been here one month and we waited the two weeks for him to apply for his ss# and he just got it today so I am not sure if working for two months will do much good for him but if he insists on it then he has the right. Also, just to let you know that his SS card stated something different than ours. It had something about only permitted to work with DHS authorization. Best wishes!

Okay,

I found this.........hope it helps someone else:

Postponing of Egyptian military service

The Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Frankfurt extends its compliments and presents the following procedure and requirements for postponing of military service.

- Each Egyptian citizen (male) has to perform the military service upon reaching 18 years old, and he is not allowed to do it if he reached 30 years old.

- Each Egyptian citizen (male) must have military number, which is based on his Egyptian national ID.

- The military service could be postponed for the following cases:

· Students, which are currently studying in collages or schools or universities (under graduates). In these cases the military service will be postponed until completion of the study in course or until the age of: 22 years in the case of studies before the end of high school – 24 years in the case of studies after high school (not university) – 29 years in the case of under graduate university studies.

· For the only son of a father less than 60 years old.

· For the oldest son after immigration of his brothers or obtaining duel citizenship.

· For the only son of divorced mother.

Did you say you were exempt Mohamed?

And how about afsalim? Are you exempt?

Maybe that's why Mohamed had no problems with a one way ticket on Egypt Air. He was exempt from military service.

I bet if your passport didn't have that exemption, then they would have wanted a round trip ticket, don't you think?

I spoke to my SO yesterday, and he said he was not required to serve and that getting that travel permit from the military will not be a problem. We decided on EgyptAir, round trip through a travel agency and play it safe. Of all the money invested over a two year visa journey, what's a few hundred more? No, we don't have money to burn, but this is our life and we think it is better to be safe than have a headache. Life it too short for any regrets. At least it is for us.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Mohamed, that was a very nice thing to say to me. And you know what? God blesses me every day . May He bless you and your family, keep you safe, and give you the desires of your heart.

Ahmed is thinking the same........round trip..........talked to him today.

He said by not being exempt from the military.......it might cause him problems.

Plus, the round trip is only a couple of 100 more now than the one way. The one way from San Fran is around

1000 dollars and the round trips are around 1200.

That way, he can just not have the hassle. He is nervous enough having to fly for the first time.

Just to throw another piece of info into the mix...........Ahmed has a friend flying out on a K-1 visa but

he works for the Egyptian government as a doctor. They requested that he submit approval for vacation before he leaves and get permission from the government , but that takes another month.

So, for any fiance K-1 Visa person out there that works for the Egyptian government, that might be another hoop to jump through. The government there will stamp his passport

with that permission, too. He is a little worried about that and it may create problems at the airport.

I guess each case is REALLY different.

Good luck for anyone and everyone traveling from Egypt on a K-1. Here's to no hassle if you have a one-way or round-trip ticket.

It really is hard to travel out of Egypt for some........it seems.

Thanks for all the info Tasha.

You applied for the social security after 2 weeks to the day that he arrived or a little after 2 weeks?

Your husband bought it at Egypt Air and not through a travel agent?

Yeah.......I don't know how great it is to work for a couple of months and then tell your employer you quit because

you don't have the EAD.

Ahmed is planning on studying and getting his CPA license here.

He already has a bachelor's degree in Commerce.

So, I have to work tomorrow so I better get some sleep.

Thanks for everyone's help and input.........

Is there a way to save this post to a favorites without too much hassle?

Hello all

Any one had travel from Egypt  to USA using a K1 visa and one way ticket or it should be a round trip ticket.

please if u did or know someone did that advice me cause iam travelling during the high season "August" and tickts is very expensive at this time of year.

thanks for any help

Regards

Hi there,

You only need a one way ticket, you should have no trouble. Try to make sure that your layover (if you have one) is for at least 3 to 4 hours because you will have a long wait. If you are flying into JFK, expect at a minimum of one hour wait. Also you should be aware that they aren't giving the temporary work permit there anymore. Gamal flew in this Wednesday and they wouldn't give it to him, and he came in on a K1 visa. Just be prepared for delays. We wish you the best of luck, happy reunion!!!!

:crying::unsure: OMG, they QUIT giving Temporary Work Permits AT ALL|???? Are you positive that NO ONE is getting them at JFK any more? My SO will be devastated. We specifically decided to have him come through JFK so he could get the work permit. Did they give Gamal any reason? I guess I better make some phone calls. That is just such bad news for my SO.
