Leading Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama pooh-poohed the idea that Iran or any of a few other "tiny" nations around the world offer a serious potential threat to the United States or the free world.

"Iran, Cuba, Venezuela? These countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose any serious threat to us," he told a crowd at a campaign stop over the weekend, prompting the probable Republican opponent for the White House to respond that Iran already is attacking the U.S.

how quickly he forgets history with iran......

And yet, this pales in comparison to the nuclear warheads the USSR was capable of delivering. Perspective, folks.

But I understand that the GOP wants to run on a platform of fear yet again. Which is good. It'll ensure Obama's win in November.

has anyone told obama that the soviet union does not exist?

Has he indicated anywhere that he believes it does? Historical context and perspective is what this is all about. Not whether or not the USSR still exists. That said, it was McSame, actually, that wasn't aware that Czechoslovakia no longer exists. ;)

can't admit your boy is wrong? it's russia, not the soviet union. get out of the 90's!

Come off it. If Obama had said, "Kim Il Jung is no Hitler," could we assume from that he believes Hitler is still alive?

no, it just means he understands the difference geographically between north korea and germany

So bringing up the examples of appeasement in history is germane then?

Only if anyone was proposing appeasement as a policy. I haven't seen anyone doing that.

Just because Bush & Co. says so, doesn't make it so, my friend. There's a real world outside Bush & Co's imagination. Take a look. ;)

You have to do better than referring to koolaid. Remember, those that do, have no argument to put forth.

Look at all the disagreement here on V.J. and the hardheadedness. Your fantasy of Barry somehow talking Iran into changing their ways comes from a foolish mind. Wake-up from that coma your in! My god man.

Anti-Americanism is fueled by America interfering in other countries affairs. So I would not blame this on cowboy diplomacy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

If that isn't accurate I don't know what is. Thanks B! Unfortunately, cowboy "diplomacy" is precisely that. On top, of course, is rushing to fictitious and belicose conclusions about overinflated enemies.

No one abroad is going to like a war. That is common sense. But interfering comes in many forms. And anti-Americanism existed way before going to Iraq.
